Question: what happens when you put warn hubs on the front of an automatic Transmission with a full time 4x4 drive train??

I assume the Transfer Case and R&P and axles would still spin, but the hubs would not have power to them... Wouldn't save you much fuel economy wise I guess, and if front was perma locked, the turing may be easier. May have some uses, if you break a axle, you would still need to remove the driveshaft to stop the turning in the front diff from the pinion side, but the hubs would allow you to release the tire rotation force from the axles, so you wouldn't have moving broken parts in there...

Kinda what you were asking for?

:chug:

If you have a QuadraTrac Transfer Case the differential inside of it will most likely wear quicker as it tries to adjust the power between the front and rear axles. If it is the Dana 300 then you can shut off the power to the front drive train. These are the only two OEM transfer cases that came with an automatic. Of course you could be talking about a completely different setup too. The automatic doesn't figure into the mix at all, everything would be the same with a manual Transmission . The TC is the big question. There are some with the opinion that you will not hurt a QuadraTrac by doing that. My opinion is that it is not good for it.

Actually it is a NP249 from a 93 grand Cherokee. Now that I have thought this through a bit I should have put this in "other than Jeep as I am considering this for the 55 Willys PU project.

I think I may have scored a setoff Bronco axles, a Dana 44 and a ford 9", for it and the Dana 44 has locking hubs on it.

The NP249 is a more advanced version of the QuadraTrac . It is a full time 4wd. It has a differential a lot like the QuadraTrac . They call it the VC. It doesn't matter what full time 4wd Transfer Case you use all of them have this expensive to replace part. :( My question would be why would you want it to have hubs? Are you looking for better millage? (Ah,just reread about the Dana 44 ) I have the QuadraTrac in my CJ7 because it is an automatic. I would have preferred a Dana 300 or a Dana 20 , :D but that would require an adapter, and those are not cheep. I put the Mile Marker kit in mine just this last month. Haven't had time to try it out. I did this because I live in Texas and will use this as my daily driver. If I were back in Colorado I would have rebuilt it and not changed anything. So I guess it all boils down to how and where you will use it. :chug: I would definitely keep an eye on the TC for wear if you keep the front hubs unlocked.
