Hi all!!!
I have been searching and searching locally, ebay, etc for upper pulse air tubes for one of my cj7s. But of no luck lately.

I have one that is missing the upper, left and right soft hoses. It is a manual brake set up too.


I am in commiefornia where we have the visual inspection. If anybody has a spare set or know of similar parts i can use, it would be greatly appreciated.
 
I have a good working air pump if that helps.
I also have the diverter valve.
 
Thanks posi, i do not need an air pump, this guy just has the pulse air recirculation, torxhead, i will definitely give j&w a shot
 
It's just simple rubber hoses if that's all you need. Get sufficiently flexible ones and cut to fit. Or am I missing something?

Mine has the unmolested original system on it. Do you need pics too?

Your Jeep should have the same pulse air system as mine.

Also why does having manual brakes have any bearing on the issue?

I may have to use some runner hoses that have some flex, but thr upper rubber hoses are a little different between power brakes and manual because the air cleaner position

Thought the same thing myself, it became quickly obvious that the hoses are pre molded to bend at the right places. The hoses do look fairly straight and they are, until you need to make that final bend at the air pump or diving down to the air valve on the manifold spiders (yes, I call them spiders, lets not grind on that one again.)

Oh OK. Well you can buy elbow fittings (plastic/metal) to make the angles work (they also come in a variety of angles but you may have to order that) if it won't bend sufficiently on it's own. Look in plumbing/piping depts of Lowes/HD for PVC fittings.

You could route them a little differently too if you don't mind it exactly where the originals went. It just has to pass a visual inspection like you said. You could electrical tape the seams of a cut hose if that matters too.

I can't believe these inspection stations could possibly know exactly what if any emissions equipment is missing off a mid 80s Jeep but then again I don't live in CA. I can understand them looking for a catalytic converter or EGR valve. Maybe they got checklists for every make/model/year car?

I understand now about the power/manual brakes issue.

Trust me-They have an impressive data base on what's OEM and what is not.
Along with what is legal to add etc.
Been play the SMOG came here for the last 33+ yrs with my CJ7 .

I wonder if just any ol' rubber or better yet plastic hose is designed to withstand the environment found under a vehicles hood. It is a hot nasty oily place under there. Also, it doesn't take long for most guys, let alone a trained professional to look under a hood and fairly quickly see a part that simply doesn't belong, sorta like a red flag, it draws your attention.

Also, it doesn't take long for most guys, let alone a trained professional to look under a hood and fairly quickly see a part that simply doesn't belong, sorta like a red flag, it draws your attention.

PVC starts to decompose when the temperature reaches 140 °C (284 °F), with melting temperature starting around 160 °C (320 °F). But don't use schedule 80. That melts at lower temps.

I wouldn't use PVC pipe instead of hose but if it's inside automotive rated rubber hose you should not have to worry.

My sympathies to those that have to deal with these issues. The guys in my State I bring my vehicles to for inspections do just a few minutes looking at it for headlights that work, horn, wipers, etc. Very basic stuff. Next time I have it inspected I'm going to bring it somewhere that I can stand right there and watch it all being done. Course I need to keep my mouth shut!!!!! LOL

Thats how it use to be in CO, it was a safety inspection where the checked the tires,brakes and the like. Then they changed it to a emission inspection so it could be a rolling death trap but if it isn't polluting you can get tags.

Ours is called a Brake Tag Inspection where they check your mileage, insurance and title and if your vehicle looks like it is maintained and you have $10 you are good to go
 
Using pvc pipe is a big no go in california, or any cobbled together joints of random pipe. Smog stations look down on that and would raise a flag and further scrutinize a vehicle because here in ca, there are undercover smog agents too, and the last thing a tech would want to lose is the license.
