Not sure if the right forum, but here goes. Trying to get an idea of what to offer and what people think of this CJ.

I have included some pics and have more. It’s a Southwest Jeep, surface rust in the tub, and the frame. There does not appear to be rust which extends beyond the surface. However there is plenty as you can see. It starts, but cannot get to idle. The owner says needs a fuel pump, and plenty more I’m sure. Lights don’t work so will need wiring, harness, who knows. He supposedly drove it from AZ years ago. Not drivable at the moment.

What would one pay for this CJ? Needs a lot of work. Not major body work but plenty nonetheless. Critique please.
Thanks,

Patrick

My .02 It appears to be mostly un-molested/stock, which is good. It looks like it has surface rust everywhere (frame and underside as well), so a lot of work is ahead of you to nip that in the bud. I personally wouldn't give more than $2k and would push hard for less. What is/would be your plan/vision for the old girl?

Thanks for the reply. Well I wanted to restore it, likely off frame, but not right away. Would like to keep it as close to original as possible. Yes a lot of work ahead if I purchase.

I agree with Hole since it's a non runner no more than 2k, I'd push for around 1500. I would also check the frame real well for rust throughs and cracks. A trip to a mediablaster is in it's future for sure.

Just remember Patrick, we're here to give advise and help you spend money anytime you need us ;)

I'd offer 1200 but be ready to go up to 1500 or so. The two most important questions are what's he asking and what are you prepared to do (repair wise)?

The thing is a 74 is hard to find parts for. Ask me how I know. Which motor does it have in it? From the troubles I am having I wouldn't touch it unless it had a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . If it does have a AMC 232 i6 and it is shot, I will be having a AMC 232 i6 long block possibly for sale soon.
