My grandfather brought his 86 CJ7 to me to lower. It is his hunting rig and it sits too high. It had 33's on it years ago and he put on some smaller tires on to lower it. Well, he is getting older and his jeep is still too stiff & tall. It has a hack job shackle reversal kit in the front, and confer lift shackles in the rear. I was going to move his front shackle forward and set the angle at 45 degrees. This would lower the front and allow the shackle to swing. As it currently sits the shackle points straight up and doesn't swing when flexing. I think this will help soften the ride as well as lower the stance, but what about the rear? I can get a stock shackle, but I believe his springs are lift springs. It is SUA. His cj sits
A little taller then my XJ on 35s.
I want to swap some stock YJ springs in when I do all this, hoping that it will be low and soft enough for him.

How wide are cj spring bushings and how wide are yj spring bushings?

I just measered the springs on his jeep. The front springs measure 2 1/8in wide, while the back springs measure 2 1/2in wide. I assume thats stock width and not YJ width.

Just picked up a set of yj springs with shackles. And a set of front spring hangers. Probably going to convert back to shackle forword. Any comments on this?

NorCal Chris, watching with interest. It sounds like you described my '80 CJ7 . It bounces so badly, nobody will ride with me.

Sure like to know how it works after the new parts go on.

My Jeep is set up for a rock climber, and the biggest rock anywhere near me is sand on the Gulf beach. Maybe I don't need such stiff suspension.

What does everyone think about rockyroad outfitters? Ive heard they have good products, but terible customer service. I need a few parts for this conversion and they have them. Or does anyone reccomend any other companies for yj spring conversion parts.

I don't know if its' because I'm new on here, or not, but this forum is really lacking some helpful users.

its probably cause the title is 'lowering a cj' lol everyone is sayin WTF?

im seeking similar answers too. i have a 81cj7 and im curious about converting to the yj springs as well for a smoother ride. i dont reaaaallly mind it, but maybe the dogs would appreciate it more when they go on rides.
