Just received it in yesterday evening...got it in bare steel as I wanted to paint it and it was a few bucks cheaper than zinc coated lol

Well all I can say is the steering box flexes on the factory mount like crazy...so can't wait to add this mount which is built like a brick :dung: house lol I swear the weight alone is massive. Going to hopefully get this mounted up either today or tomorrow along with a tomkin box brace and the borg steering shaft.....then she will be driveable (not too far as new clutch is needed):chug:

Looks good - they are sure as heck beefy!

No kidding...looked "heavy duty" in the pic but damn....if you don't have one....get one lol

Now if I can get over this week long flu I've had hopefully get some parts on her this weekend.....

Unless a few of y'all feel sorry for me and want to do it for me hahahahaha

I have the same parts you are using on my CJ7 . 5 years and no issuses, works great.

"Got er DID" today.....with a couple of helping hands got the steering box mount "mounted"......then did the steering shaft and dear lord what a MAJOR difference it made. I'd have to say this is the number 1 mod everyone with a CJ should do lol

Whoever designed the original steering box mount should be flogged in public..after taking the old "two" piece off I shuttered thinking about the thought process on how this was "sturdy" for an on road "off road" capable vehicle lol.

Now she's driveable....somewhat....clutch slips like crazy so that's next....

and well going to send back my tomkin box brace for the MORE box brace....don't like how the tomkin mounts to the steering box...seems like the MORE mounts in a more logical location (above he pitman arm) where most of the torque would be......

you have no concerns over the forces that are moving the stock bracket now being transfered to the frame and stressing it?

That's what the "Cross Brace" is for.

they are best used in tandem.

Makes sense..

Steering brace and steering mount first and best thing to do to your steering. ALL CJ'S should have these two things done first thing. You WILL feel a difference every time.
Guaranteed.

The CJ steering box does flex. It can also get ripped off the frame. That can be a real PITA if you are on a remote trail (something like that never seems to happen on a residential street).
An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.
I have, and prefer, the brace like the silver one that LongHorn shows but either one is far superior to OEM.

I guess it's hard to see in that picture Busa, but I have a M.O.R.E Steering box mount & the cross brace.:D
Like I stated before, they are best used in tandem. ;)

True, but most of us don't have 38 inch tires.
It's good to use something to brace the steering box.

Nope, frame is in good condition, and will also use the box brace to transfer some of that to the other side of the frame.....and if youre really worried can add some more steel to the mount side for more support (saw a kit somewheres)

I wish I would have read this forum about 2 weeks ago!
I have a 73 CJ5 with 37 in tires and the steering bracket holding the box on was stock. Guess what? Yep it snapped makin. A turn goin bout 20 mph down the river!!!! It's a miracle I didn't roll it! Since then I built my own bracket out of 5/8" inch steel woulda been cheeper just to buy the bracket

Reading is fundamental....lol

That sucks! I knew something had to be done about the steering on my first test drive....forums like this helped me figure out what to do before it happened lol as I said before the designer needs to be kicked in the nutz.....I'm only running 32's and had way too much play....

Hmm, you broke a 73 bracket? That's pretty weird as the 75 and down brackets are not thin stamped steel as the 76 and up ones are.

If you broke a 73 bracket it had to have been worked pretty hard at some time (and developed a crack). I personally have never seen one break.

BTW - All the M.O.R.E. brackets are for 76 and up so they wouldn't fit your 73... :(

Well I Guess if they don't make the brackets for a 73 then it's a good thing I made my own. The was stock one was too thin.
Even if it was strong what is the point in owning a jeep unless you out it through hell? Thanks for the info though I enjoy people volunteer info to make you feel lesser.
