Does anyone know if the power steering setup from an 82 CJ5 will bolt directly to my 73 CJ5 with manual steering. I found a guy that wants to trade his power setup for my manual one and i need to know all the parts that we need to swap to make it work for both of us. Also what changed in 1976 i see alot of parts will fit 76 and up jeeps but not 75 and earlier.

73 didn't have the option of PS with a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . They moved the alt and PS pump around up, down, and switched sides over the years. Ask if he has a pic installed on the donor. I went to a junk yard and pulled all the brackets off a 75 Hornet. The pump (RH side high) and alt (LH side low) were like 15 bucks. Any AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l -AMC 232 i6 set up will work. Any GM box will work, some say look for "76" on the casting from a Camaro. The steering shaft had a rag joint that kept failing. So I put a Flaming River shaft on. End of problem. ARG pump and box on now. Depends on what you want. Make sure to put a steering box brace on. Easy to fab up.

Good luck

Thanks for the tip but i read that one already and it didn't really help but there was alot of good info in it. I guess that my major problem is that i dont know what changed in the 76 model year and if there was extra bracketry. I saw that there are 3 brackets for power steering models from 76-86 but none for manual steering if anyone knows anything about this i would appreciate the help i haven't found anything about swapping jeep parts for jeep parts. Also the power steering pump doesn't concern me too much i work with a guy that has the pump and brackets from a AMC 304 and if they dont work i can make some billet ones. Im really concerned about the box and the steering shaft.

The steering pump mount was the challenge for me and I had to fabricate my own. If you have a service manual look at all the variations in v belt layout, if something is added something else gets moved like on a ca. AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l the air pump gets moved way up from the manual steering location to allow the steering pump to go below etc. etc.
Can't say for sure what box you need to fit yours but you will need the pitman arm and steering shaft to go with it as power steering box's use a dif. spline on both ends.
I got my parts from Power steering pros as a kit except for the shaft and that came from 4wd hardware.
Someone is gona step in here that will know better though.:)
