may go wit 35" ground hawg tires

the thing is i have 31's right now and i was wondering of what you guys think of me going with 35's. here is a picture of me with the 31's i have a 4 inch lift so, im pretty sure they will fit, it may be close but i think it will fit. Im asking what you think what i will be able to fit, do you think these will be too big or i will be fine, i just want some opinions and maybe reviews on the tires, the radial ground hawgs i am getting 35x12.5x15, i do plan on going bogging or maybe light offroading sometime, but mostly my dd to school that is about 5 miles away, ao about 65 to 70 miles a week on them between school and going to frineds houses, how will they wear?

I have that size Super Swampers on my CJ5 . But I also have about 6" of lift (4" suspension, 2" shackles). I had to cut my fenders nearly completely out to keep the tires from self-destructing or tearing up the body. I used TJ flares in the rear to cover the cut lines and open the body up a little.
Also, I run a 360 AMC (built up some) with 3:73 gears. I have a hard time getting the truck rolling without really slipping the clutch, and my slow-speed off road ability really suffers. Your inline will struggle to make any speed at all on the road with that large of a tire, and your fuel mileage will suffer as well.
What I'm trying to say is this. Just because the big tires look cool, doesn't make them the right tires for you. There are a lot of things to consider when going that large of a tire, that have nothing to do with the tires themselves. Gears, engine power, Transmission choice, how you plan to use the truck and in what terrain (mud? rocks? trails? daily driver? mall crawler?), what kind of MPG do you need to get? Ect...
Without knowing anything about you aside from the fact that your profile says your 17, I'd say go no bigger than 33" tires, and learn how to drive the truck in your chosen environs. Lots less building, lots more time enjoying your Jeep. And you will be surprised at just what a CJ can do with just a mild lift and a set of decent tires.
Speaking of tires, I'd stay away from Ground Hawgs and other aggressive treads for a while unless you spend a lot of time in the mud. Crappy tires WILL make you not like to drive your CJ on the street. Get a good All Terrain tire and just enjoy driving it for a while...

No man i understand what you are saying. i do not mind the rough ride or the loud tires, my dad runs big tires on his yj and i dont mind it. im not really putting them on to tear up and shread them, im putting them on to ride with, im not a crazy driver, i dont care about how fats i pick up or go, i understand what your saying, if i can go and stop with them thats fine, i dont care if the rolling strat is hard, the person behind me can slow down and wait. i just want to be able to use them on my jeep. I just want simple reviews and want ot know if i can fit them

well with the 4 inches you have already, i doubt youll be able to fit them, but then again ive noticed that ground hawgs are the worst when it comes to measuring up to their numerical size. But i will have to agree with mylittlecj5, if you go with those 35's the least you will have to do is regear, and more lift. And if you ever intend on getting in any kind of mud, a ground hawg is just like most radial tires, you really have to get up some wheel speed before your gona move.

When I was 19 I went witrh 33's on my CJ5 and after 20 years I still run 33's on the same Jeep. They have the best balance for me between hitting offroad terrain and daily driving. I drove my Jeep daily for over ten years before I had a second vehicle. Half that time was on all terrains then I got BFG mud terrains. They were loud but I didn't care since the soft top was loud as hell anyway. Today I run D!ck Cepec mud terrains and I do not like them at all. But I am older now and I get sick of the noise. My next set of treads will be 31 inch Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs. I love the aggressive look and they are sort of a hybrid tire.

Only complaint i have, is in the sand while trying to pull my boat out of the water, they seem to fill the treads with sand and turn in to slicks...

But the wear, noise (they're pretty quiet) and mud / dirt & Rocks off road, and on road performance I am completely satisfied with

I run 12.5 wide, If I had the choice (came with the CJ) I'd probably switch down to a 10.5 or 11.5...

I may get some different tires when i switch, and have not had much experience with these in my CJ off road yet though, what little off roadin' i did before noticing my front ring and pinon were chewed I was happy with.

I run 33" MTZ's with a 4" lift plus a 1" BL. They don't rub but they come real close when stuffed.
I'm pretty sure a 35 would rub in the rear. And they would be hard on the brakes.
I have no experence with the R. Hog but the old bias Hog lasted forever.
If I were you I'd go 33's and some KM2's or MTZ's or something that looked cool to you.

Yeah, when I was about 20/21ish and using my CJ5 for a daily driver I just went to a local tire store and picked up 4 33in AT tires for about $400. They worked out great for that dailiy commute to school and the occassional trail ride.

I've got 14/35-15 Ground Hawgs on my CJ5 with a 2" body lift and 2" wheel spacers. I built custom tube fenders for the front and only trimmed about a 4-5" long by 3/4" to a point sliver on the the front and rear of the rear fenderwell. Here's a view of my fenders before they were finished.

I run Ground Hawg II Radials in 38x15.5Rx16.5. flavor on my CJ7 . Mine measured out at 37.3" mounted on rims ( but not on the jeep) and at 35 psi. Despite the markings they generally measure out at about 37.3" x 14.5", so an inch shorter and and inch narrower than the sidewall states. They have a rep for running smaller than stated size. The 14/35 bias Ground Hawgs generally struggled to hit 34x13" when I saw guys posting up actual tire heights a few years back. The 44" ground hawgs all measured about 41". Many brands do not reach there stated height but the bias Ground Hawgs in particular have a bad rep for this. Their shorter actual height will probably aid them in fitment.

As long as you wheel where it is dry those are fine. The, like every A/T I have dealt with, are not good in mud. Not just a mud bog type thing, either. Just the wet dirt you find on wooded trails gums them up. Your satisfaction with an off-road tire is going to depend largely on the terrain in which you use it.

I will concur with the Hawgs being a little shorter. That's part of the reason I looked for them as I thought they would fit. I believe the tire size is on their website. They're still wider and taller than 33's unless you get 33 boggers in the extra wide version. My biggest complaint is getting the sidewall to flex. I'm afraid of running less than 10psi on the trail. They actually really start to flex at around 3-5 psi but I've only tried that low of pressure at home.

I don't see Ground Hawgs ever coming back. They were an original Denman design that Interco adopted when Denman made Interco's tires for them. Denman going bully-up is what had caused Interco's 2-year long struggle trying to find someone else to manufacture their designs for them

I have 33/12.5/15 Goodyear Duratrac and love them. The next set though will be a set of Goodyear mt/r there more of a mud tire and have stronger sidewalls, and still have the road manners and acutely pretty quite for an aggressive tread.
