Out of curiosity, I look at CL occasionally to see if just maybe there's a "bargain" old CJ out there. One to pick up cheap, do some restoration and maybe make a little side money or just break even and have some fun.
Anyway, this one showed up, and I'm thinking there's more to this story:

Restored CJ7 Jeep - $12500
1980 AMC CJ7 , complete frame restoration, rhino lined body, AMC 304 V8, 4spd, Dana 300 , warn hubs, hard & soft top with doors. New tires. Lifted. To much stuff to list. Over 27k invested.

Not a real good return on investment.

WOW!!
I'd be curious to see how it looks for $27K invested!

If you do a real full restore on just about any vehicle you will never get a return on your investment. There are exceptions but they are the very sought after muscle cars and exotics...

Sounds like some one did it for the enjoyment - not the payoff...

And thats the only way you'll do it with a Jeep.

This is the one in Corpus Christi??
$12500 and no pictures??
frame off restoration and no pictures??
Hmmmmm:rolleyes:

Yep, that's the one.
I'd think with that asking price and that much invested, he'd be trying a little harder. If he really wants to sell it.

If he paid some shop to do the work I could see it costing that much.

I have almost that much into my Orange one and I did all the work...
It adds up quickly when you replace EVERYTHING...

I hear that, I got most of my parts a rock bottom prices. It still adds up quick.

if he counts winch, 2 diffs a tranny rebuild, t case rebuild, rebuild the engine, do the frame, new springs and all the body work, then dew hardware, paid to much for the jeep, and had someone else do the work, yea that would cost over 27 gs, sounds like a killer deal for someone wanting a turn key, but I prefer having to do the work myself, I do not do this to have pristene jeeps, I could buy a new one cheaper, I do it to have a killer jeep I built. It is my hobby.
