The Jeep is a pain to start if left more than a day without starting, believe the fuel must be either leaking out or evaporating (carb has been rebuilt). The mechanical pumps doesn't seem to like priming itself and I can churn the engine over for a good 20sec + before I get fuel. I have been using easy start and with that it will start after a few squirts. From what I can make out the pump doesn't function great without the engine spinning at a raised speed (i.e. above cranking speed). I've been thinking that I should change to an electrical pump, this way as soon as the key is turned on the fuel is pumping/primed and should solve this issue.
Question is what electrical pump are people using? and is this a good idea?

You can have bad lines causing the gas to leak back down to the tank. Mechanical pumps are pretty cheap and have been used for many of years. I'd buy anew mechanical pump and see how it works for your if you go with an electric pump it will need
1 to be mounted lower then the tank to keep it's prime. Jeep tanks are pretty low
2 wired through a relay
3 adjustable fuel regulator will also need to be involved.

Honestly if your not running a high reving high HP more or fuel injection mechanical pumps are so much easier to deal with.

I forgot to add that the last 2 cars I had with that same type of symptom were fixed by a new mechanical fuel pump.. Just buy a good one if you go that route.

I would say forget the electric pump, your system was designed for a mechanical one. I would suggest finding out where the problem is, like fuel lines, fuel pump, or carb.

I have used this one on several jeeps..They work great..59 bucks on ebay..they are set at 7 pounds so they do not need a separate regulator

If going electric don’t forget the all-important shutoff switch in case of an accident or rollover otherwise the electric pump is just going to keep on pumping gas after the crash. Can you say Fire! Fire!

Another vote for HOLLY Red Pump. 7psi with a 2 amp. draw IF you decide to go that route. No need for regulator and relay would be optional although you could wire up your shut-off switch with relay. The one I have on my pickup for the last 10 years has been 100% reliable. also used the Fram filter with replaceable cartridge mounted between tank and pump than your regular filter at carb. mike s.

The mechanical pumps I've had ran for 20+ years with no problems. ..... Just say'in..

Can I suggest an inline non return valve , that way the fuel cant drain back past the valve so giving a head of fuel allowing you to fire the engine thus pulling fuel up from the tank,,(just a thought that I had when my AMC V8 seemed to take forever to crank over) fitting new pipes seemed to cure my problems though:)
