Just got back from an awesome trip on the Mojave Road. Took alot of side trips to nearby mine's and such. A little on the warm side(100+) but was nice at night. The road itself isnt too challenging, but some of the side trips made up for that. Looking forward to returning in the fall to explore more of the Preserve.

The Mo Road is a great trail at around 125 miles long with history dating back to the mid 1800s. I look forward to when I can do it again also.

Looks like a fun time, minus the temp. Wish that was closer because I would also like to try it out. My GF would love a trail like that.

Hey Torx and Hole,

Looks like you guys are pretty active. I live in Corona and need a recommendation on a local club. We like to sightsee and camp the backcountry far more than challenging our field repair skills. Seems like most of the clubs are more interested in seeing how bad they can tear their jeeps up. Thanks much.

I'm not aware of nor belong to any Jeep clubs. My group is good/best friends that all enjoy the path less traveled.Old Mojave Desert mines and ghost towns/camps are our spring and fall destinations usually, and places where we can exercise our 2nd amendment rights at the same time move up on the list ;)

The clubs I've looked into have been a bit of a disappointment. I spent many years camping and shooting with the kids in and around the Kelso area (Vulcan Mine). When Cranston and finally Feinstein effectively closed it by creating the preserve, I almost had a breakdown. Being a gunsmith by background and having worked for several of the major firearms manufacturers, (Colt,S&W,Sig & Remington) I also believe in the Second Amendment and why it exist. My only interest in a club was an effort to find someone with similar interest. Thanks for the reply.

Submoa, is too bad you have been unfortunate in locating a local Jeep club. I thought that the Inland Empire had quite a selection of great clubs. I would suggest doing a club search by looking up the California Association of Four Wheel Drive Clubs and pick some out in your area:South District Clubs
Or look at the California Off Road Vehicle Association at their clubs:
California Off-Road Vehicle Association :: CORVA Clubs
Most clubs do have a website to contact them from, good luck

Torx,
Thanks , but did that. Guess I'm getting old. It seems most of them have a different agenda than I do.

Now is the Mojave Road the same as the Mojave Trail? We went on a section of this back in 1985 but I recall it being more of a dirt trail / road with an occasional graveyard or stone foundation along the way. I only have 2 pics scanned of the trip. Maybe I need to find the physical pictures and refresh my memory.

Submoa, if you know how important it is to have blue mountains on silver bullets and can do basic beer math, your welcome to join us this spring in Calico :chug:

The Mojave Rd is in SoCal, it runs from Barstow to the Colorado River just south of Bullhead Az. Nice pics, top pic maybe but the bottom one doesnt look like anything we saw along the way.

Yeah, I believe we headed up towards Barstow or Victorville and headed south. I'll have to look thru my pics, I know one is of the sign along the way. I doubt I still have the map anywhere. That was 27 years ago.

When I did the road it was in April, a few years back when the weather was perfect. Also used the Mojave Road Guide(Mojave Road Guide - DesertUSA Store) to show me the way. Originally it went from Prescott, Arizona to Los Angeles,Ca., I was able to get 100 miles in 3 days and got plenty of history and scenery. The toughest spot was in the long mud pit on Soda Dry Lake, from there I drove thru Afton Canyon into the Mojave River and had water coming up over the hood of the Jeep.

Torxhead, when we were researching before our trip it seemed that the Mojave river and Soda Lake where the biggest challenges. Our late April trip had a max of 18" water at the river and Soda Lake was dry as a bone. As it turned out, our biggest challenge was trying to keep food and beverage cold for three days in 100 degree heat

Well, I do look forward to doing it again, when the weather is perfect. When I have more time and will visit the Goffs Schoolhouse. I will probably bypass the mud pit and river. For the easy long trail like that I take Wifey's Grand Cherokee.

We went from west to east because my parents have a place in Bullhead we were able to use for the last night ;). On the way back we discovered the school house was open, so we stopped in. It's an amazing place with so much history of the area.We had more fun on the side trips than the road itself. so we are already planning a few 3-4 day trips to better explore certain areas of interest. My avatar is from one of those side trips, it's an old miners cabin that folks have cleaned up and use often according to the log book.

Hole,

Thanks Pal apprecitae the offer. I do understand that all important numbers are divisible by six and I do have my own lime tree. Keep me posted.

Submoa, We go every spring and fall, I'll sent you a pm when some dates are available. Since we are looking at Calico for the spring trip and the fact that it's pretty close, we will more than likely make a day long pre-run or two between now and then. It's been 25 years or more since I've been to Calico, and everything I did that trip was multiplied by 6 so I doubt anything will look familiar ;)

Hole,

Thanks much. I'm always up for a pre-run as well. Been a while since I played around there.
