85 CJ7 360. Looking at mufflers. Confused. What position should inlet and outlet be? Looking at flow masters but not sure which orientation to buy. Thanks!

your gonna have to crawl under and see what is gonna be the best for you. every jeep is a little different, and with a swapped in engine it adds another variable to the equation. as for sound, i like magnaflows, but they are loud and expensive

Yeah, I like loud too, but I have a completely psycho neighbor. When he dies, it's fair game! I need something throaty but tame. I have looked for clips on tube, but have only found a few. I'll crawl under tomorrow night!

Yeah, I like loud too!

I'm running the flowmaster Hush Power. They are small, center in center out, and loud.:D
To loud for me, I must be getting old :D

What size pipe you running on that beast.

I'm going to replace My exhast hear in the future and also want opinions on what muffler to buy. I have a I6 and don't want something that will sound funny, like a weedeater on stroids lol. I also know I'm going with a stainless muffler, and looking at prices on stainless all the way back but want to know price diff. I've done so much reshearch on tires here in the last 2 weeks I'm all searched out. And opinions or advice, and price diffreances would be a big help.

I assume with a I6 you're going with inside the frame single...

Are you wanting a rear dual exit, dual side exit, or hidden under the jeep look?

Also are you sticking it to a header?

Here's a few more options to clutter your head... About 2000+ to be exact... You can further filter it after... :D

Universal - Mufflers - Mufflers & Resonators - Exhaust - SummitRacing.com

I like Cherry Bombs myself, but am going to switch to something that doesn't keep popping during deceleration / down shift... Might check into these:

Thrush Turbo Mufflers - SummitRacing.com

:chug:

Up on frame rail single exit no header, and looks like no stainless for the tubing maybe just muffler, and or cat. if produced. And thanks for the links, will be checking them out.:chug:

Germy these were to help you too  There are a lot of options for mufflers and orientations etc. And this is just on Summit's site...

I used to have a firebird with flowmaster that would turn heads man... That thing was the deepest and cleanest sounding muffler I have ever owned. May have had something to do with the 3" diam down-cut bells at the end of the pipes too

JR popping durning deceleration is usually caused from an exaust leak either at the head or if you have headers could be at the collector.

I had cherry bomb glass packs under mine when i had my 360 and i also had hedman headers on it too and i was looking for loud but to be honest they werent that loud under heavy accellaration they would talk but cruising around the were great good rumble i liked em just wasnt loud enough for me.

Sorry I shouldn't have jumped in on someone elses thread. Will try not to do that in the future. But thanks for the info:o

I got 3" in/out and 3" collectors... 33"long ... Sounds pretty good throughout. Sometime on 2hr drive little too loud  But your right, they are not the loudest out there:cool:

1986cj7 you were still on topic my friend :chug: Dont think too big of deal unless we get away from original thread posters question / topic

I'm thinking flowmaster 40's on cheap headers. Mine are rusted pos. Anybody know what a roundabout number for a header back install at a muffler shop would be? I'm guessing 250. Just install, I will have the mufflers.

At a muffler shop you will probably save $$$ by putting the header on yourself, then give them the muffler and have them pipe and weld it. Seems putting headers on would really jack up the price, especially in a jeep engine compartment.

Yes I would have headers on. Can a header swap be done without pulling the motor?

I wouldn't pull the motor to get a header on. Worst case scenario the fender would come off I'm sure. I'm sure some one will have a matter of fact answer for you here pretty quick.
