I'm 18 years old and the proud owner of a 1980 cut that I paid too much money for. The dream is a daily driver/ trail rig. Currently it has in Buick 231 sitting in the engine bay backed by a th350 and a Dana 300 . I have a 06 LSx 5.3 engine, sm465 trani, and np205 Transfer Case to go in it, 33inch tires and a SOA conversion. So far its ready to have the old engine, trani, and Transfer Case pulled and replaced. A CJ5 has been my dream vehical for the last 8 years. With this thread I'm going to share what i learn and take note of the process so that maybe I can help someone else along the way. Feel free to ask questions, give advice, opinions, or ideas. Anything would be appreciated as this is my first build.

Welcome,

That V6 must look tiny in that engine compartment.
My first recommendation would be to upgrade your brakes, add rear disc and new master cylinder
Inspect the seat belt attachment points for any rust/rot repair if needed
Check the rollbar mounts while your at it.
Inspect and replace any worn steering and suspension components
Add a full cage
I know that's not all the fun stuff but it may save your life.
The cash you make from selling the V6/350/300 buy some good tires and one piece rear axle shafts.
Then you can think about a 2.5 lift.
Hope this helps

Thank you and I will definitely do the brakes and suspension before I get it on the road. I've gotten almost everything i need to bolt the drive train together. I traded the th350 and NP205 for 2 Dana 60's that I'm gonna leave full width and slap in there. I'm gonna stick to SUA (low COG) but I'm gonna put out boarded YJ springs under it. High steer kit is also in it's near future and a shackle reversal

man to be 18 again....... good luck share your adventures with us we love to see pics
