The Jeep was totally gone thru, 124k original miles on body,
New Crate engine and Trans, Weber Carb, Interior replaced back to stock, Dana 44 Rear, Dana 35 Front, 2.5 " Suspension Lift 1" body 33-12.50 Tires on Mickey Thompson Wheels, New Dupont Paint
Ok so I finally got the CJ7 back, i should have took some pics before i drove it home in the rain and parked it, i got it back right before thanksgiving.
Anyways when i bought it , there was a :dung: power acoustic CD player in it, anyways, I had planned on doing a serious radio upgrade since i bough the jeep.
OK here is what I have or have planned so far.
I got an
RADIO: Alpine Headunit out of a civic i used to have and it has a ipod, iphone adapter etc, i know the newer ones attach directly to the radio but this one has a box you put in the console or glovebox and your ipod etc stays hidden and the radio controls the ipod, I been saving it for the jeep b/c it keeps as much as possible out of sight.
SPEAKERS:
there are some in the front speaker location, and it has some plastic boxes that mount around the rear roll bar by the rear seat, i dont think they make these exact boxes anymore I cant find them in any catalog but they hold s 6x9
i ordered a centra pod, it holds 5.25 but says with trimming 6.5's can fit easily
here is a link to the centra pod

I like the plastic pod system b.c of rain etc, but for the very rear
there is a quad pod, it holds a 8 in sub in the bottom and a 6.5 in the top, it sits one on each side of the rear storage space of the jeep, so one right behind the corner of the rear set on each side.
here is a link

I found another option that holds 2 10 in subs and is made of wood but it is sprayed with a line-x type material and the subs are firing down and has a space for the amp in the middle also facing down, it has on each side pieces so it doesnt set on the bottom of the floor of the jeep.

But here is my issue im getting in to, its got 2 stock 4 in I think in the dash, the 2 6x9's , 2 5.25 which i plan to put 6.5's in the centra pod and either 2 more 6.5's and 2 8's in the quad pods which puts me putting all amps under the seat, or going with the 2- 10 in subs with a place to put either 1 or 2 amps out of sight with the 10's.
I will run JL audio in the speakers, I am not wanting some mall cruising, tg rattling jeep, but with the top off and 33's you loose so much sound.

I guess I am asking has anyone used the pods, how do speakers sound in them,or how have u had luck putting amps under the rear seat.
The jeep will be well protected, at a min, it will be in a gated parking with a hardtop, or in a garage. I m not driving it to the mall with the top of so people can just open the door and get what they want.
the radio has removeable face etc, so if i went with the 10's the box cant be removed without opening the rear tailgate and the only thing that could be seen would be the centra pod which goes behind the shifter, the 6x9 boxes in the rear are hard to see if looking for them but both could be covered very easily.

Looking for opinions here, I am going either way with the quad pod or the 10's to have a switch wired in to turn the subs off by flipping a switch when hard top is on, the radio would turn them off if I wanted to do it that way but wiring in the switch just makes it easier to turn them off and or on,

opinions pls

Best audio system I can think of for a CJ is a well tuned V8 and a quality muffler that gives you the tone you want.

Seriously though, I would think long and hard about putting a lot of audio gear in a CJ. Unless you have a custom steel hard top installed, it won't take a thief but a second or two to get in and steal everything. And car alarms just don't matter, especially when you can so easily get in and cut the wiring to the horn or just disconnect the battery. Don't kid yourself about the Jeep being secured in a gated community with a hard top. None of that will stop a thief with a little skill.

if you're set on installing a system like that, look into waterproofing the system when you install it, or at least making it water resistant. You don't want to short out your gear.

Lastly, keep in mind that road noise in a CJ raises the noise floor so high that you won't get much value out of really clear speakers. You just won't be able to hear the subtle and fine tones of whatever you're playing. That is, unless you plan on playing your stereo a lot when you're parked. Even then, you're outside with natural noise so you won't get the most out of the really top notch gear.

Good question- I have thought about using waterproof (or water resistant) marine speakers in my jeep.

I have some marine 8" and 6.5" Clarions (from ebay) in a boat and they sound great, and they're tougher than regular car speakers.

I like the idea of stowing the ipod in the glove box.

My jeep stays in a garage locked and usually only time when i take it out that im not standing there is when i pay for gas, maybe when its outside my girls house where its totally safe,
But there could be an off chance i had the hard top on and had it at my loft which is gated and weather got bad all of a sudden and i stayed over night,
ive lived there over 5 years with conv. porsches and vettes etc and no one has broken into any cars inside my gated parking lot where i live,
i dont keep my jeep there i got a civic for gas mileage i drive right now

i know people say that about a good sounding motor etc, but i got to have my music,

I was more looking for people who have used any of these products and how the speakers sounded in the poly plastic boxes, i havent decided on the rear, i kinda like the 10's box for the reason it gives me a place for the amps and it would cut down on 2 speakers, cause right now im looking at having 8-10 speakers and i know thats ridiculous almost sounding but i can only power 4 at most 6 off radio and not well,
2 in dash,
2, behind shifter
2, rear in front of seat bottom of roll bar
and either 2 or 4 in back

so has anyone used any of these pods or where did u put ur amps under back seat seams best place if so how d it work out?

I'm planning my stereo equipment as well. If you have an Alpine head unit, KTP-445 is a small 180W x 4 amp. it's about the length of an iPhone and a half. It'll be a good driver for your small speakers. It's only $129 at Best Buy..$100 online some places.

mattandorange

who makes the amp, and what power rating is it rms and how many channels?

Has anybody bult some type of box or something to protect their amps better, i know if u put them in box sealed u need major fans and ventialation etc, i just want something a little extra besides under back seat, I had considered a box with dwn ward firing subs they have on each side about a 2 in piece that comes down so the woofers aernt against ur floor board and in between the subs would be a good place, esp for an expenesive amp, I mean for my regular speakes i am going to get a good amp but not one where u pay out the *** for the name, for just some of the other speakers im not shelling out for a jl audio amp etc,

I know with hard top on it would be obnixous, but i plan on riding either with a bikini or no top summer and play only, or even though about removing reat seat and going that route, but i dont want it obvious by looking i have a system in the jeep.

in one jeep I ran a box with 2 8 inch woofers, pushed by 900 watts, 2 pods with component speakers in them and 2 speakers under the dash, those 4 were being pushed by 800 watts, I put the capacitor under the seat o condtion the power to the 2 amps which I made a box and mounted behind the seats, I had to put 4 cooling fans in there when It was cranked it would cut out after 10 minutes before I cooled them. the system was designed so I could play Jazz at max levels on the trail because their is always some idiot wanting to show off, I decided I was going be the guy who made him put up or shut up. And it worked.
