need advice

i have a all stock 71 CJ5 v6 225 3spd...
im a large man and with the seat all the way back i still hit the steering wheel.. i noticed that it looks like i could mabey notch the lower dash around the colum about 3/4 in and move the colum forward just a tad? has anybody tryd this? or is this just wishfull thinking? any help welcome thank you.....

I've seen people that have notched the rear fender to move the seat back.

I have the same problem, but I did not have the problem until I put after market seats in it. you know "one size fits most oriental people". I am going back with the original style seats, hopefully this will help.
The fender notch looks easier than what you describe, have you thought about a tilt wheel??
I have had the thought but never did any serious looking at the possibility.
