I sold my 76 CJ5 and have long had that missing feeling inside. I am looking at a 1957 CJ5 . Very good shape, no rust(hard to find in Louisiana and about 80% restored. Only thing I can wrap my head around is the guy keeps telling me that I has the original v6 engine (4 speed + reverse)? I thought the only engine for this model was the Hurricane F Head and it was an inline 4 cylinder (3 speed). Was there a 6 cylinder for this year? See the link. I can't wait to be home in a jeep again! You guys help me rebuild my last one and I hope to be home again soon.

Were's Baja? I'm not sure and reluctant to say without some better research but looks to me the buick 225 was first used in CJ5 's in 66?
Are you wanting this rig to restore to original more or less or to modify?
Reason I ask is if me I would only go back this far for originality and would be an awesome Jeep but to try and build up I would look at something later for too many reasons to list.

I am more for originality. I have passed on several CJ7 's that are lifted with 35's. I really love an old school original as can be jeep. I don't mind the extra's, like a good radio, but everything else I like simple. I use it for a weekend riding toy. Any warning as for what to look out for on a early CJ5 like this?

There are a lot of non original parts just based off the pictures. The steering system has been changed out based off the late GM column. Plus the dash is replaced and all the original gages are missing. Also did all CJ5 's have tailgates back then? I think you would nee alot of parts to go back to original.

The 225 V6 wasn't used until Kaiser bought the company in 1964 and then bought the casting from Buick in 1965. They starting using the motor in 1966.

The 225 Buick V-6 was available as a factory option from '66-'71. However, over the years many of these were swapped in over rebuilding the original 4 cylinder. One thing to keep in mind is that the 198/ 231/ 252 Buick V-6's have been mis identified as the 225. Best way would be to check the S/N... Pics of the engine posted to the site might also help.

Keep an eye on this jeep the owner may not have the original paper work and it could possibly be a 60s model if you look at it again look to see if it has missing id tags and if it doesnt look to see if it has a kaiser willys tag if it does it may be newer jeep now for another curveball it could have a 57 tub and fenders on a say 66 frame if he doesnt know it he could be confused about what he has not knowing because the Dauntless Buick 225 V6 motor should have jeep on it somewhere i beleive. Resulting the confusion.

I will definately look for labels and the serial on the engine. I appreciate all the input. I am going to look at it one more time.
