Need help finding a part for my steering column

Hey guys,

I have a 83 CJ7 with a floor shift non-tilt steering column that broke on me about a week ago. I pulled the column this evening and found the part that broke. It is the little black plastic gear that engages the rack and also the back of the ignition lock fits into. It has several teeth that are broken/missing and the rest have rounded edges. Where can I get this part? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Collins bros. would be a first stop.

If you can find a dealer that still has parts books. AND that part is shown. The dealer can put out a part inventory search. This search checks every dealer in the country for inventory.

Did this several times for oddball parts for the YJ.

You might be able to cross reference this with GM as many of their components ended up in AMC steering systems.

Ok, Ill check with them and see what they got. I need a top cover for a T-5 Transmission anyways.

I have no clue what this part is called or what part number it has to cross reference it by. I have searched the internet with no luck. I have a Haynes manual but it does not show anything of use when regarding the steering column.

Could this part be found in other AMC vehicles?

I don't see it listed seperately in the parts manual for your application.
my guess is it's part of J8127845, housing assemby, service kit.

its called the "sector" its part of the "igntion rack and sector gear kit".

maybe able to match it up in a parts store....Dorman brand
the pic is from oreillys may not be the same but.....

or may have to go to gm....
that is the part that is broken the most when stolen on older gms so the dealerships usually carry them

I didn't find any loose ones in my part's supply.I would need to dis-assemble a complete column to get one,making that one incomplete.You will be better off finding it from a dealer or your local Mcparts store.
