Is it possible to put a yj dash in a 79 CJ5 with little or no modifications. I'm new to the jeep world just wondering if this has been done before

I don't know why you would want to, the YJ dash is ugly and its easy to get a CJ dash KEEP IT ALL CJ

Cj only all the way

get a blank dash panel and add gauges as you see fit. otherwise keep your cj a cj.

Yes you can mount the yj dash with little to no modifications, I think only the location of the defroster is different between the. However the getting the gauges to work will be a PITA! YJ gauges are horrible compared to the shady gauges in the CJ's. For the ammount you will spend trying to regauge and wire up the yj cluster you will be better off either buying a stock CK dash, getting a blank dash and making your own or having a company like doubled make you a custom dash.

Keep in mind when it comes to custom dashes the dash it self is not the expensive part. For my set up im going with Ill have over $700 in gauges not including the senders.

If I get a chance Ill post up some pics later if my layout.

I agree on gauges. I installed two gauges on my tow rig (boost & EGT) and was in for almost 100.00 and I used lowest priced good quality I could find.

Here's my double D fab dash.

The dash is about $325 shipped. It's actually going into my yj. It will have a 5" speedo, tach, volts, water, oil, fuel and clock. The head lights, fan and blower motor will be run of toggle switches. Ill add those holes when I get it back.

toggle switches?? So are they going to be an all the way on all the way off sort of thing? Since fan and wipers are on a rotary switch. How are you controling the rest of the heat/vent situation?

My dash is actually going into my yj/cj project. The wipers are on the column. I'm hoping I can make a on-off-on toggle work the blower motor in the med and hi range. For the blend and the floor/defroster switch I need to work on. Honestly it's a Florida driver so ill probably stick it in defrost and leave it there.. Might make up a couple of levers that are stashed under the dash to change it.. Not really sure.

IF you decide to go the YJ route I have most of a dash, the panel, and I think a speedo, tach and cable.. I can make you a good deal on the stuff.. I also have a Blanks CJ dash. only has the glove box and speaker holes cut out.
