I have a 1975 CJ5 with a fiberglass body. The problem is that the jeep is so light that it feels like I'm riding in a wagon on a rough two trail, every bump in the road shakes the whole jeep. From what I can make out the jeep has a 4" lift from 4wd hardware. It looks like seven leaf springs in the spring. Has anyone ever removed a few or is there a good cheap swap that would not change the lift to much. These are the 1 1/2 wide springs. Thanks

i have heard of people taking out the second longest leaf in the pack, but i havent tried it myself. the other option is a shackle reversal, but there is mixed opinions about that. i cant weigh in on them myself as i have never driven a jeep with a shackle reversal

I have 2 leaves removed from the rear and one up front from my RE springs. That is an option but also make sure you have movement in your shackles and that they are not so tight and dry to prohibit spring flex.

I got a better look at the springs and they are Superlift-6 spring pack. They have the rivet in the spring clamp. I read that you should not remove the second longest because it will put too much stress on the long spring. I think I'm going to remove one or two above the shortest. After reading I think they need taken apart and cleaned-geased, to help them cycle. Any more thoughts?

Just my 2 cents, but I wouldn't recommend grease between the leaves. Just gives the dirt something easier to stick to. Here's an article I found online in a 4WD mag:http://www.fourwheeler.com/projectbu...ngs/index.html about how Deavers refurbishes and tunes springs for off road racing. May be of some help. I just did this to the springs on my 75 and it was a pretty easy process. I can't tell you how it worked yet, cause I'm still in the middle of my rebuild. Good Luck!

also an option if you want to spend the money would be to swap to YJ front leaves which are wider and a easy swap out, I like the 4 wheeler article above, I have some teflon that i want to use on mine as its going together

What do you think about a product called dry grafite spray I saw this today in Home Depot. I think it is made by the company that makes PB Blaster

You are headed in the wrong direction, the problem is a lack of weight not an excess of spring. You need a fair heavy bumper with a winch and a swing out tire carrier with a pair of Jerry cans.

Wow !! What a difference it made by lowering the tire pressure. I think I might be able to live with the ride now- without removing any leaves. You can barely tell the tires are only at 20 psi. There will be no highway trips, just local driving.
