hello i just got my84 CJ7 it needs a steering box (it has power steering) this is our first jeep and first attempt at jeep repair any advice before we start

It is a pretty straight forward job. Just be careful removing the pitman arm, JR74CJ5 about lost a finger removing his. -->> http://www.jeep-cj.com/forums/f98/jrs-74-cj5-build-i-go-11231/#post91978

Also see -->> http://www.jeep-cj.com/forums/f19/pittman-removal-11218/

Keep the nut threaded on the shaft so the arm does not fly off. Don't forget the pitman should only go on one way, one grove in the splines is larger than the others.

Also might want to look at changing the steering box coupler if it is even slightly worn while you are at it. It's number '3' on this page -->> Jeep CJ Steering Parts or you may be able to rebuild it (I always just replace them as I'm to lazy to rebuild them).

Here is a discussion on a replacement Cardone steering box. -->> http://www.jeep-cj.com/forums/f19/cardone-steering-box-oreilly-11435/

Sure did! That thing will really POP when it's ready. If using a puller, stay the heck away from under it. :cool:

Thanks CJ, I needed that number 3 link :D

Also seen a good how to bleed the steering system of air bubbles thread yesterday... hmmm see if i can find that real quick for ya...
