After tightening the lower ball joint jamnut to 75 pounds I proceeded to tighten the upper split ring to 50. With that I was surprised to see how far down the split ring goes on the upper ball joint stud. I can definitely see the split ring threads now as it contacts the rubber ball joint cover and I am not at even at 50 pounds of torque yet. Does this sound right? How much of that split ring should be seen below the yoke? I assumed I wasn’t going to see any at all. (Moog Ball Joint Kits: K8194T & K8195T)

steve801,
If you are not positive do a correction, by removing both nuts and split ring, knock knuckle back off. Install knuckle & tighten lower nut finger tight. Tighten upper nut to 10-20ft. lbs., tighten lower to 80ft. lbs. . Remove upper nut, install split ring to 50ft. lbs. , install upper nut to 100ft. lbs. . And check preload to 10ft. lbs. or less, with axles and spindles installed loosely.
I hope this helps.

steve801,
After both nuts are torqued to specks, insert axle and spindle , but do not tighten spindle nuts. Put a bar type torque wrench on top nut and turn and watch indicator, should turn at 10ft. lbs. or less. If no Bar TW turn knuckle by hand should turn freely and with slight resistance.
Hope this helps.

Just trying to fix the world one Jeep at a time.
