Might be a thread out there already but when I searched I didn't find too much.

Have a 1980 frame going on my 84 CJ7 and I need new brake lines and possibly new master cyl/ brake booster. My 84 didn't have front disc but my 80 frame does. My question is what size brake lines do I use, will I need a new master cyl and brake booster for the disc brakes, do I need a proportional valve? Shooting in the dark at this point. Need all the info and advice I can get.

That's really odd that the 84 doesn't have disc's. I wonder if someone changed the front axle.
Is the master cly. that's on it now have the back resevor bigger than the front? If so it was probably made for front disc's. If not than yes you need everything you talked about.
Not sure on the line size, but I'm sure someone here knows.

Here is the one currently on there

Here is a better picture. Looks like the rear reservoir is larger. That would mean disc at one point and time?

I would think so. Drum/drum usually have the same size front & back.
The whole system is probable from a disc/drum set up. I'm pretty sure all 84's came with disc's up front.

Great to hear. Maybe they did swamp the axles at one point but must have been desperate if they gave up disc for drums at the time. I have an 1980 frame with what will be all 84 parts (WT axles) so any brake line kit that's made for an 84 should work right?

Yes a kit for an 84 should work.

Thanks. Looked at the kits and will be ordering one as soon as I finish the fuel lines. With discs and power steering, will I need a adjustable proportioning valve?

You should just need a disc/drum one. You could get an adjustable one
if you want to spend the extra money and mess with it to get it the way you want. It's up to you.

Hey Austin,

I am having a similar dilemma. Would you mind sharing what you ended up doing?
