Evening all, I am brand new to Jeep life. I bought a 1976 CJ5 inline 6 and love it already!! The seats are at an odd angle though, they are low back seats but the fronts of them are high and the backs low so you lean way back and my legs barely slip under the steering wheel. Are the seat brackets just like that from the factory? Did someone install after market and they are just wonky?

Looking to install different seats but if its the same brackets the same problem will exist.... HELP!

Right! Pictures will help.
I had a ‘79 CJ5 and it had seats from an FJ40. A lot can happen over 3 decades with different owners.
Probably some scavenging.

I've had three CJs over the years and all had this "symptom". The seat mounts would have the front higher than the back. I always put some spacers about an inch thick under the rear mounting points and longer bolts to go through. I have used a cut off length of 1/2" metal pipe, two pieces of 1/4" steel plate cut into a "cube" of sorts stacked together with a hole drilled through, and currently have two nylon bushings that are round, 1" or so thick, and have 1/2" holes through them (just 'cause I had them laying around from some other project when I got my current rig). Loosen the front two mounting bolts, remove the two rear mounting bolts, place the spacers between the floor and the rear two mounting spots on the seat frame, then insert slightly longer bolts into the rear holes, and bolt it all down tight again. I found that lifting the rear mounting spots this inch or so puts me in the perfect position for what I want/need. No gangsta-style reclined driving for me.
