Hey all, new to the boards! Originally from WA, moved to UT a couple months ago. My wife and I just purchased our “new” 65 CJ5 from her uncle. Her grandpa was the original owner and bought it new in 65. He passed away a couple of years ago and it’s been stored by her uncle since. I even have the original paper work and title from 1965!
I’m new to the CJ, kind of bought it on a whim, usually I research a lot before buying something, but the price was more than right, and the family history was a motivator. My 60s bronco will have to wait. but I’ve owned an 05 liberty Diesel, and a 92 YJ and done a time of work to them in the past.
Anyway! The CJ! It’s a base model all original except the motor, it’s the Buick v6 swapped in around the 25k mile mark, but it’s been swapped in as if it were factory. The Jeep itself only has 52k original miles. It’s been used as a Jeep, hunting, trails and recreation, wasn’t really a daily. It has a lot of family history, but I’m the only one in the family who has the know how to keep it on the road and restore it. I’m no stranger to wrenching but I have a lot to learn about this Jeep in particular..
I’m a ford guy usually, but a diesel lover on top of that. I daily drive a built 2001 7.3 f350, and a lifted 2005 expedition depending on the day. I’ll post those up in the appropriate forum.
Here’s some pics! I have big plans for this cj, but ultimately I want to restore it to almost original condition over time, maybe some creature comforts just to help it drive a little more comfortably, I don’t need it original, I just want it to flash back the memories for two generations of family.
Here’s the thing and crd just for funsies.
