Me again I just installed new starter after mine burned up last weekend. Turned the key and it cranked....would not stop cranking until positive batter cable was removed from battery.

What's causing this?

A starter relay not wired correctly will cause that. There is a blue wire and a red with white tracer on top of the relay that might need to be reversed.

This picture is of the wires after I took them off the solenoid.

I'm not a wiring expert, but I think the wire on the right is from the cylinder lock. And it's the only wire that was hooked up. To a post on the solenoid.

There is only one wire (negative side) of the battery and solenoid that go to starter.

All I did was swap the starter.

It's apart now cause I'm headed to Parts house thinking solenoid went bad. Plus the cable to starter I wanted new.

The one on the right which looks like it is blue in color, goes to the ignition switch an will send 12v to the relay when the ignition key is in the start position. The other wire which should be red with a white trace, sends 12v to the coil for the primary ignition start up. It does not appear they can be reversed, so the problem must be with the starter or relay.

Where do I find the starter relay?

The starter is a reman, is it possible it has a problem internally?

It started raining so I'm done working on it for now. Don't have a garage, so it may be tomorrow morning before I get to try again.

I have a new solenoid bolted to the fender and new starter cable to go in when its dry outside.

The starter solenoid and relay are pretty much the same thing. Personally, I think relay is a better description. The starter that you purchased can be a bad one, you can take it back and describe the issue and they should test it or give you another.

My bet-it's the solenoid........:notworthy:
Trigger wires are backwards.
Try the old solenoid;)

New solenoid fixed the problem. Jeep is running again.

Now to replace the muffler and another test drive.

Again thanks to all you experienced guys !!![emoji481][emoji481]
