Ok someone must have done this....

There are a ton of newer Wrangler wheels on CL for a steal. Problems are they have a different bolt spacing and some don't have large enough openings for the front hub and then there is the issue of backspacing.

Any suggestions how one could overcome this as I love the way they look and how cheap some of them are.

I have a 84 CJ7 with locking hubs, 15' rims with 33' pro comp ATs.

And even better if you have solved this issue I would love a photo of your rig with the newer rims as well.

Scary idea there. Whees need a solid mount, not a hokey adapted home made mount .
Even wheel spacers are not a good idea.
Get a proper set and do it right.

Now that you have thought about it, forget about it! NOT a good idea to "make" things like wheels "fit" on your Jeep. Just not worth the possible risk. A wheel falling off a CJ on the road is not something I would like to experience.

You would have to either replace both axles or get custom one piece rear shaft and drums and then swap the Dana 30 newer outers into the front end. The savings just isn't there once it's all said and done.

That is why I am asking the question. Maybe a better question is what other factory wheels would work properly on a stock CJ7 setup and look more modern?

There are places that can weld the wheels and re drill them and even be DOT approved but the cheap part isn't there any more.
If you do find some way to adapt them , could you have some one take videos of the wreck??

Go to a rim store and ask them, they will have all that info.

Ford 1/2 ton trucks had the same bolt pattern for years but I don't know when it changed plus I don't think they had any good stock rims.

Jeep 41-86 5 on 5 1/2"
Durango 04-08 5 on 5 1/2"
Ford 1/2 Tons 59-96 5 on 5 1/2"
Scouts 5 on 5 1/2"
Ram 1/2 ton PU 80-09 5 on 5 1/2"

Great list of compatible factory wheels! Has anyone converted to one of these other than the CJ and if so I would love to see a photo of your rig sporting these wheels. :D

Saw 06' and 07' Ford Ranger FX4 Level 2 wheels on a TJ and they looked real nice.
These are normally very shiney.

Are you sure on the Durango being 5 on 5 1/2"? I have a Gen 1 (98-03) Durango and it has a 6 bolt pattern (that is NOT the same as all the other 6 hole patterns ). I don't know on the Gen 2 for sure, but I don't remember them fitting the earlier Jeeps.
