Anybody have a recommendation for something comparable?

Trying to fix the tank ride on my 73'. Did all the normal stuff to the springs including cutting bottom leaf, opened up mil wrap, greased, loosened u bolts and shackles bolts. Was really happy with movement just me pushing on it, put the shocks back on and they are really restricting the movement. I think the valving is just too tight for how light my jeep is. Has the shocks that came with the Superlift that PO installed.

Thanks

I think the Rancho shocks are over rated. They cost alot and don't work any better then just a set of gas shocks from NAPA. IMO

Good enough then; I kindof thought the same over the years. But this being my first Jeep, I'm having to adjust to the ride.

Did soften up on my first ride after rust removal and greasing the leaves.

Just have to do the fronts tomorrow. I don't know how the leaves are supposed to move at all; the damn mil wrap is pinched tight like a clamp.

:)If you still have the 1.75" wide short stock spring that is most of the problem. I believe that 73 has the same spring since 1955 and is to short and has to high of a return frequency. The problem with that spring is trying to maintain some arch in such a short length and the result is a very rough ride even when you remove leaves. The other problem as mentioned above is not to use an aggressive shock.........stay with good stock shock.
You can go to the long leave Holbrook Spring there in Oregon that is about 9 inches longer on each end. You move the inboard hangers on the frame in on both ends towards the middle............rides like a new Jeep and has much better articulation. Not cheap but do a great job over the stock setup.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at doing some custom springs but I'll take a look into Holbrook after I give these leaves a chance to move with no rust.

Just doing the rears made an incredible difference.

Thanks again for the help.
