Hey guys I replaced battery and starter selenoid and jeep still won't start unless I jump the selenoid with a screw driver. Could the new selenoid be bad? My other problem is when I am driving and approach a small hill i have a lack of power. Power is fine off the line. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Does the new solenoid look the same and have the same number of terminals as the one you removed?

Thanks for the reply guys. The new selenoid is identical to the old one. I read the other thread in the link above. I will get a volt meter and test it. That was very helpful. I just got this jeep 2 weeks ago and it was starting fine up until yesterday. Any ideas of the issue with it bogging down going up a slight hill? I work in a body shop. I am a painter so I do understand mechanical things somewhat. Unfortunately electrical problems is 1 thing I struggle with.

What have you messed with, since you bought it?

Mine went out a couple years ago so I ran down to Napa to get a new one. Looked identical, put it on and nothing. I was out on the road and didnt have many tools with me(lesson learned) so back to return it in my buddies truck I go. Got back and the same thing happened. We talked about it for a minute and tried flipping the start/run wires and it started right up. Ran back to Napa just to triple check that I indeed had the correct solenoid and the computer and the old school parts book listed the one they gave me as the correct one. Maybe the one that failed wasnt correct in the first place, either way, maybe something to check.

Haven't messed with anything since I got besides an oil change. I will try switching the wires and see what happens. Thank you

Why guess, just test the starter solenoid.
If you still have the old one test that one as well to compare.
Grab a meter and place the probes between the S post and the starter solenoid base plate, you should have 3-5 ohms.
Between the 2 large posts should be open
Between the S post and large post should be open as well.

On the slow up hill, what size tires do you have?

If your running stock 3:54's that would slow you down on the hills.

As far as I know stock gears and rear. Just seems to bog down going up hill. Feels like it's not getting enough gas. This is not my daily driver just a project to mess around with. Thanks for all the help.

No it's you have way more tire then motor and gears.

Before you start throw'n $$$$ at it(smaller tires). Find out what your R&P ratio is.

Will do. Thanks. Stuck in the house all day with this blizzard going on been doing a lot of researching today.

Stay safe-Do you have generator backup, if power is lost?
You'll need to remove the rear diff cover. On the outside of the ring gear should be the ratio. It will be giving in tooth count.

Thanks for the info. Yes I have a generator. Hoping I won't need it.
