Hi All, newbie here, been jeepin for many years and took a break, been itchin to get back into it and this 85 CJ7 caught my eye a few weeks ago, I don't no what I was thinking, must have had too much free time or money in my pocket. lol

It has a glass tub on it and the wiring is a nightmare. Nothing was hooked up when I bought it, managed to get lights working, but I can't figure out what is wrong with the turn signals. The hazards work properly, but no turn signals, and yes there are 2 new flashers in the fuse block and a new relay, I only found 1. Replacing the relay got the hazards working, spent a lot of time grounding everything really good. The only thing I do notice is if I step on the brakes, and put the turn signal on the side that is suppose to flash goes out. What does that tell me?

Any help would be appreciated.

mechanically does the turn signal lever click either way ?
if you look into the hole where the lever is do you see crack or crack in the plastic?
and does it go back to original position when you turn the wheel?

this pic is what im asking about

yeah the turn signal switch clicks both ways and cancels. I'm sure the switch works, its causing the brake light to go out? but why isn't the flasher getting power?

The first thing I would do is replace the turn signal switch, they do go bad I think I've had to replace it in everything I have owned.

My 75 CJ5 is doing the exact same thing, except I don't have hazards either, I did find that my fuse was blown, and my test light does not light up when I touch the new fuse so I'm not getting power or whatnot idk....

I would dig up a wiring diagram before you start chasing too much around.

I had a weird hazard/TS problem on my 73 CJ also. It turned out there was some weird hook up where the power to one flasher fed the other; cant really remember but I do recall thinking it was an unusual way to wire it. Guessing the PO did too because they werent working when I got it.

It's an old glass fuse box, I'm thinkin late 70's, even tho it's titled an 85. I've had a lot of guys say check the fuse, but all the fuses in the box have juice with the key on, and I don't see one labeled for turn signal. Yeah my next step is to get a wiring diagram and start tracing things. Thanks all for your help

Got it!!! Bad connection at the fuse block. Pulled it apart and greased it up good.

Good job
