Sometimes a project takes longer than expected. Sometimes plans change. This can be a real p.i.t.a. if you have to keep moving heavy/awkward parts around your garage or shop. I always see shows, and guys in my Jeep club weld up stands and dolleys for their projects but what about us non welders?

I know your Jeep can give you "wood" many times over , but heres a way to reciprocate. :D This is the most basic of basic wood dollies you'll ever see. I made one for my auto Transmission /Dana 300 so I could stop asking for help moving it from here to there. Follow along as I build a square with wheels.

I started with a 6 ft piece of 2x4 as my basis. After a complex mathematical computation I found that this could be cut into 4 pieces of equal length measuring 18 inches long. :D

With some hardware I had laying around I decided to make a dolley to make life a little easier.

While Vicki was out shopping I had her stop by home depot for some caster wheels. Its pretty simple to just follow the outline of the holes using a pencil.

Just make your 4 pieces 18 in long , drill your holes and bolt them together.

Add your caster wheels and roll along my friends. I used 2 swivel wheels and 2 stationary.

Now I can move the Transmission and Transfer Case all day long no sweat. :)

I'll be making 2 dollys for the axles soon. A little more complicated , but still very easy with basic hand tools.

Just felt Id share a way for some people who dont weld an easy way to save their backs. :)

its a little more expensive, but use 4 swivel casters, and your life will be a lot easier.
But anyways thats a good way to do it! What weight rating caster wheels did you end up with?

Looks good.
Simple, strong, easy way to move a tranny around.

Horrible freight gets less than $20 for this, with carpet trim.
I like yours Pete, it has much more character:chug:.

I always prefer to build myself (or repair things myself) Save money and more pride in the final product.

I got a few dollies with the shop that are nothing but a slab of plywood (about 12"/side) with fancy laminate trim and 4 casters on them. I've already used them to move complete chassis (without wheel/tires) around the shops. Pretty handy and you will find many uses for them.

I wanted all swivels but my parts chaser ( Vicki ) made the command decision to go 1/2 and 1/2 when I didnt answer her text question quick enough. They were rated at 250 lbs. Id like a little higher rating than that next time.

Thanx Dave. Ive moved my whole driveline into the basement for a rebuild this winter hopefully. I wanted to be able to move things around a little easier.

Ha , I could build 2 for slightly more. And its more fun than going to the store. :)

Great job! Sturdy and cheap... :notworthy: :chug:

If you don't need custom ones - I keep four or more of these around. -->> Mover's Dolly

Guess I didnt get to the patent office quick enough. But honestly I think you'll really like what I came up with for the axles. I just have to find some time to go get a little steel.
