My lifters seem to be very noisy. Is there an adjustment, engine flush or oil additive that would quiet them down? I've already added Lucus to the engine oil. Next oil change I'm going to a straight 40W oil. I also have oil on the outside of the starter. Any sealers out there that might help? I've already replaced the rocker cover gasket & can't see any leaks from it.

lifters noisy? Are you sure it is the lifters? Or is it because the rocker nuts are not adjusted correctly? BTW - what engine?

As for the oil leak, how much oil? Could it be blow by?

Posted from my CrackBerry.

What's your oil pressure look like, have you tried a real gauge or are you using the factory gauge.

Factory gauge reads 60#. Starter is wet on the end facing the radiator. Sometimes I have a small puddle under the starter after long periods of idling,(checking the idle, vacuum, timing, adjusting the carb, working on heater, etc). Removed the torque converter inspection cover on the B&M TH350 & have oil firm there also. Rear main? I have added 1 bottle Lucus oil treatment to the oil, no change in the noise.

CD - Sure sounds like a rear main... :(

Still don't know what engine though... :(

That would really help with the 'noisy lifter' problem. We don't know if you have adjustable rockers or not... :)

X2 on that. Also my factory gauge use to read "0" :eek:when I started my rig, until I'd tap on real hard. Then it would come around. So needless to say I don't trust the factory gauge readings very much. I use a mechanical "Auto Meter Gauge.";)

Engine is the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . Buddy says it may be the piston slapping. Noise goes away after she reached normal operating temp.
