Nutter Bypass - Got the Wires Backwards - Little Help
83 CJ7 - AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l Original Carb.
So, yeah. I'm about dumb. Of all my years of working with autos, I figured I wouldn't really need to mark the wires.
I took 2 black wires, stripped both the ends of 1 of them so I can tell them apart. Twisted them both together and STILL manage to splice them backwards.
Orange to Purple
Purple to Orange
In my defense, I was interrupted in the middle of it.
But anyway, when I first did it, it ran OK except when under load, so I didn't think to second check my work. Manifold Vacuum ran better than Ported. (i was confused) So I just started to get my vacuum lines in order and tune the carb.....yet I could never get it running right under load. (obviously)
Turning the distro counter clockwise to the block, I could get it to run but it was like the vacuum advance was working against me. Obviously I was a little confused, and after about a 1/2 hour of runtime and underhood tinkering, I finally lost spark and died....all it would do is crank.
I couldn't get it to fire again, I decided to check my work on everything I did and lo and behold i found that I got the damn twisted pair backwards. Like an idiot.
So I am guessing that my ignition control module is now fkt. There is nothing else to go bad from what I understand. Perhaps someone with a little Jeep ignition knowledge will say something like "yeah, dummy, you fried your ICM."
Are these still available in part stores? Is there another ICM out there that can be used if I can't find one for an 83 CJ7 ? Throw me some knowledge. Thanks.
