I need to replace my dipstick tube in a 79 CJ7 AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l engine. I currently have a long crooked tube which I cannot seem to find a replacement. It is my understanding that an 8 inch tube is available and should work with a new dip stick. Has anyone done this?

I haven't heard of it.I know in my research the boneyard is the only place to find a original tube.
Sometimes if you call a dealership if they'll check around some other dealership still might have a part.I found the heater box cables in Pennsylvania. He said a lot of dealerships in PA still had OEM parts.

I have to replace mine this weekend (AMC 304 ), stupid question but how does it go in and seal without leaking? Does it somewhat press in? Easiest way to do this?

FYI... I will have the oil pan off to replace the rear main if that helps any..

more or less it is just slides in kinda tight, but its not full on "press fit", i put a little silicone around the lip that sits on the block just for my own peace of mind. now the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l has a bracket that is attached to the tube and it bolts to the block, i'm not for sure about a AMC 304 , should be similar
