Engine Oil Leaking from .. ? (oil pump?)

Good Day!!

Everything went well with my first oil change, except, now I've noticed this device is leaking oil (2 pictures called "unsure") and I'm unsure what that device is and how easy it would be to get it to stop leaking oil. I haven't explored it enough to know exactly where it's leaking from on the device. I'm just trying to get all my leaks plugged up

The other picture (heater_tubes.jpg) is of my passenger side engine bay and I have put red and yellow arrows pointing to 2 tubes that seem to go into what I believe is my heater (?) which is under my glove box kind of and my question is, can I just disconnect those tubes from the heater (or whatever they are connected to) and just connect them to each other? or are they important.

Hey guys. I figured out that this device is the Fuel Pump.

Can anyone recommend one that would be good to replace this one with? or help me identify which one this one is?

Just go to your local auto parts store and tell them you need a fuel pump for an AMC 360..

That is the fuel pump that is leaking. You might be able to just tighten the fitting to stop the leak. If not, then you may need a new pump. The hoses do go to the heater and you can remove and hook together. You just won't have any heat or defrost until you fix.

I cleaned it up and have been running it and don't see any NEW leaks so maybe this was just something else that ran down that tube or something like that. I'll keep my eye on it.

Fuel pumps rarely leak oil, mostly gas if the diaphragm fails or the fittings are loose. The pump isn't lubed by pressurized oil but by oil returning to the pan.

Ya, I replied in your other post regarding the gas smell in your oil . I'd definitely replace the pump. Cheap and easy repair

Thanks guys. I am going to replace the fuel pump.

I have removed the quarter panel so now my question is, do I need to drain the system before removing the fuel pump? how much fluid should I expect? if its not that much, and I can just put a pan / towels to catch it, then no big deal but if all the oil/gas in the system is going to flow out (doesn't seem like it should) then I would want to know that first.

Crown doesn't have a very good reputation. I would suggest you go to your local NAPA. You should be able to take the pump off with minimal oil and gas loss.

Is there anything wrong with the "Carter" brand? I found this one and it is questionably cheap but maybe its just a good deal or something?

That is a good pump. Carter is an old brand. I you want it now I would head to NAPA as @caveman posted.

The fuel pump is above the oil pan which means no oil will come running out. Maybe a few drops of oil but the gas lines will likely drain out. So a catch pan is a good idea. As others have said avoid Crown and Omix. Carter, Napa house brand and AcDelco are good choices.
