Just spent four days exploring the western side of the Old Woman Mountains in the Mojave Desert, here in SoCal. Perfect weather joined us for the trip, 85-90 for days and 55-60 at night. We found a hand full of old gold mines, but most had no roads leading up to them. Those old miners must've been part billy goat to get up the steep and rocky hills to the mines, most were a hundred yards or more up the hillside's. It was certainly more than my arthritic knee could handle. Best part was not seeing another person the entire trip (aside from my buddies who made the trip)

This is a great time of the year to do the So. Cal. desert, when things finally start to cool down. I take it you came off of old route 66?

Yes sir, came down 66. Each night we stayed in a different inlet, starting with Carbonate Gulch and finishing in Browns Wash. It was a fun trip:booze:

I would enjoy wheeling Mojave Desert or most any west coast area for a change, it's much different then the northeast. Thanks for sharing!

Sounds like a great time. That's one big reason I like four wheeling: to get away. Wouldn't want to have problems out in the middle of nowhere. Bringing your buddies helps ensure you can get back to civilization if problems arise.
Thanks for sharing!
