I'm about to do the Old Man Emu suspension upgrade for my 1983 CJ7 . I have done a lot of research on all the parts needed and put together this list, which does not include shocks. I will get the shocks later.

The only thing i can think of is the extended brake lines and possibly bump stops. Other than that the list looks good.

Thank You:notworthy: this list is exactly what I'm starting to put together.

Have you found shocks yet for your project?

I will be looking for shocks too-any suggestions. I will be mainly be exploring the desert with family but will do some harder technical wheeling with friends. I will also be doing extended power line road riding so fade resistant will be important. I'm willing to spend a little for a quality shocks.

Thanks again for the list.:chug:

I must have missed this post first time around, so I'll add a couple comments. The front shackle mounts won't match for the rear mounts. I believe the bolt holes to bushing hole is a different dimension(80% sure), plus the MORE front mounts have an extra 7/8" of an inch built into them because of the longer spring length when people use stock shackles. But the back spring lengths are already the same so it doesn't need shifted back any.

Also, there was no steel sleeves for inside the bushings listed. The OME set comes with only one for the stationary end. (and make sure the sleeves are drilled to allow the grease thru to the bushings). Those shackles didn't say the come with any, which most likely they don't because their for Jeeps and they have the 1" bushings not the 1 1/4" like the wranglers do. Plus the list already included OME bushings (a better bushing) so they would get used anyways. Buy just the shackles (less $) and spend the extra on the sleeves. Sleeves keep the shackles side spacing correct and give the bushings a smooth surface to rotate against, unlike a bolt's threads.

And one last thing, the spring plates. If you plan to use the sway bar or have a narrow track axle that the shocks mount to the plate instead of the axle; keep in mind that wranglers had a different front axle with a drivers side pumkin. Jeeps have the pass. side pumkin and the one Ubolt is wider to fit over the housing. So the one set of bolt holes in that plate is wider.

I'm holding off from the shock for now until I can get everything on and do some measuring. More than Likly I'm going with the OME shocks but just don't know what size yet. Talk to George at Morris 4x4. He was helpful and knew his stuff. He should be able to help you get your correct shocks.

Have you spoken with Rocky Road Outfitters? I haven't done the math vs your list but they have good kit pricing and OME parts.

I did a lot of research and rocky road had some very bad reviews so I decided to leave them out.

On a side note I do want to mention that my build will take me a long while due to Limited time (work, family, etc.). Once I am done I will post a complete discription on my blog with my final parts list added.

At this point I ordered the parts and am waiting for them to to arrive. It might be a few weeks before everything arrives. I purchase most of the parts a Morris 4x4 and the rest at quadratec.

I got some of my parts from Okay4WD.com in N.J. They have a complete conversion kit, their Rock Granite kit, or you can buy the pieces as needed. It's best to get your springs from a place that may offer free shipping due to their weight.

After reading your post I read the installation instructions for the MORE shackles, it says the sleeves are left out of the CJ kits due to the smaller bushing. So I guess ordering the YJ shackles would solve the problem, does everyone agree?

Mountain Off-Road LS9039-1.5 - M.O.R.E. Rear 0" Lift Lubeable Shackles for 87-95 Jeep Wrangler YJ - Quadratec

Also with regards to your comment about spring plates, does anyone have a source for new spring plates for a CJ using YJ springs with Dana 30 ?

It would but now you'd have black bushings you paid for but won't use and the bolts would be too small for the ID of the OME bushings. You could save a little by just buying the shackles and then getting the bolts and sleeves elsewhere.
Unless you were going to use the black bushings included but then you have OME bushings you paid for but didn't use. I think the problem would be the ID of the bushings will be different because one was designed to use sleeves (OME) and the other may not be. So just verify some dimensions. OME greasable bolts are made with a thicker shaft the diameter of what the sleeves would be. That's why they have a larger ID. In a nutshell, not all bushings are created equal.

As for the spring plates. Warrior Products makes them and they are available thru OK4WD. I don't have a number available but they will know what you mean when you explain it.

Just to clarify so we're on the same page. The plates I'm referring to are the skid plate type. And if your not wanting those and won't be using a sway bar, then your options increase for plate availability.
