I am getting ready to replace my flat leaf springs with a a set of 2.5" OME leaf springs. I have a CJ8 with winch, hardtop and rear tire carrier. As such, I need the heavy duty leaf springs. Depending on what site you are on, some say that the CSO14F is for the Front Heavy and the CSO36R rear Med/Heavy. I have tried to find spring rates and specific information on the difference between the two springs but have been unable to any info. I understand that for a typical CJ7 , the weight ratio is 60/40 with the primary weight up front. With this line of thinking, does that mean the 14F has a higher spring rate than the 36R and therefore would be better suited for both front and rear? However, I have read somewhere that the 36R is a 5 leaf while the 14F is a 4 leaf pack which would almost suggest that the 5 leaf (36R) would be stronger. So confused....:( Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks

36r's are heavy, front and rear providing you're upgrading to YJ springs all around.

Sorry, I don't know the difference between them, I just remember that 36's were heavys since they are what I put on my 8.

I have the 36's (yj rear heavy) for all 4 corners of my Jeep, and that's because of a hardtop, winch, and heavier bumpers front and rear. If you call ARB/USA and ask for TR he'll be able to give you a better answer.

Thanks for the info. It seems like the 36Rs is the way to go though I will call TR and try to get actual spring rate and measurements. If I can get this info I will pass it on.

Thanks for the PDF file.

I don't understand why everyone is putting HD rear springs in all 4 corners. The HD fronts are stronger acording to the data sheet at 300/450 spring rate compared to the rears at 228/310.

Which makes sense to compensate for the weight of the engine. Putting rears in all 4 corners makes no sense to me.

Time to correct myself. I called ARB and got schooled.

The CSO14F specs are: The CSO 36R specs are:

Stack height: 26mm Stack height 32.5 mm
Leaves 4 Leaves 5
Weight 11 Kg Weight 13.7 Kg
Free Camber 210 Free Camber 205 mm
Spring Rate 148 Spring Rate 188

I asked why the rears are stronger than the fronts considering motor placement. He said 'picture" a pickup truck. The motor is in the front, but the heavy springs are in the rear to handle the load.

Now this all makes sense to me. My Jeep has nothing on it except a hard top and hard doors. No bumpers or winches or anything and nobody will ride in the back and I don't haul wood with it but it does have a V8. So I'm thinking of ordering the rears for the front and the fronts for the rear.
