Paint over POR15 help protect from UV?

I have searched the forums and google with few answers leading me in the right direction.

I can find lots of information about painting over POR15 without problems.
Even truck bed lining over POR15 without problems as well.

My question is a little more specific then painting over it. If I paint over the POR15 Gloss Black on the interior of my CJ7 will that provide some form of UV protection for the POR?

Has anyone lined the inside of their jeep tub with POR15 and then painted over top of it, had any problems with UV down the road?

I have POR15 gloss black lying around and I am stripping my tub to bare metal with the intention of rust proofing as best I can. POR15 sounds like the best solution if painting over it will help with UV protection. I can obviously purchase the POR primer, but if the POR15 Gloss does the job, I can spend the money on another project...

Thanks for your help.

Jamie

Did my tub last year with POR15, seems like good stuff. As with anything, the prep job is going to pay big dividends. I am not sure I would want the POR15 to be taking wear and tear though. I put carpet kit over mine. If not that, likely would have had the spray in liner on top of it. It is a very thin coat of paint and I wonder if it would hold up over time if allowed to be the only coating. Perhaps contacting the manufacturer would be the best bet. Below is an image of my tub with the POR15...

POR-15 is designed to be painted over for UV protection. They even tell you in the directions and they sell gloss black paint (or did) for that purpose.

Dan,
Looks great. How did you choose to apply?

I thought about carpet over the por15 as well. I might move forward with that idea. I must admit though, that having the rhinoliner or herculiner is more appealing at this point.

Kane:
The directions state that POR15 can and should be painted over "With their topcoat", it says nothing about how what I decide to paint over it will protect or prevent UV damage. I can imagine that whatever I choose to paint over it will obviously provide some protection, but to what degree. If your top coat is exposed to UV , does that leave the POR15 vulnerable beneath it as if it were uncovered?

I guess my question would more accurately be; I have POR15 Gloss Black. If I apply this and then paint over it with paint or truck bed liner, is the POR15 going to last in the sun?

I can understand you concerns. I think if you did a lining over the POR15 you would be golden. That was a thought of mine, but I decided on carpet instead. The POR15 I used is below with Quadratec part number listed. That quart went a long way. Put it on by brush and it was very easy to apply. Two coats if I recall and I also used it on my side steps. Good stuff.

I also used POR15 in my 84 CJ interior last year. You can see my prep and after pics in my thread below.

I did NOT use a topcoat as I also put in a carpet. (I also put in a review of the carpet kit I ended up with)

However, I did strip my diamond plate balcony last Summer and coated it with POR15 then topcoated it with their flat black topcoat paint. Both went down easily.

After 10 months and a couple feet of snow, I have a few very small spots that have chipped or peeled a bit. I'm a little disappointed but I recognize that those could have been the result of a drop of bird piss or water while the POR15 was applied and/or drying since it's outside.

So I'm going to drag the Dremel out and hit those couple spots (not even the size of a penny) and reapply.

The manufacturer recommends topcoating the stuff and in my case where the balcony is always exposed to direct sunlight, it was definitely a must do.

Also, the POR15 does NOT lose its protective properties if left uncoated, it simply turns white over time.
