would you re-assemble the jeep then paint it or while it's all over the place in pieces shoot it? There's advantages both ways and trying to decide which way to go. I'm thinking while it's all apart is best, so I can get good coverage in and around the seams. BUT, it would mean that later I run the risk of scratching or worse when the re-assemble time comes. What do ya'll think?

Also I'm thinking of doing the paint myself with some guidance, basically cause I don't wanna spend bou-coup bucks. Or do I bite the bullet and let the body shop give me a kiss with the $$$ they want?

No question, everything in pieces then assemble. Yes it's way more work and you will have to touch up areas like hinges, bolts etc.
If you are talking tub off it would not be possible to assemble off the frame anyway.

apart.. then before reassembly lay down 2-3 layers of 2-3" painters tape to help stop the contact areas from hitting each other. I would install the fenders then the grill.. I did grill then fenders and had a hard time.

That is some good advice. I got mine in pieces, I am painting it in pieces, but I was unsure of the order of assembly.

When I hung my fenders I wrapped the painters tape around the tub to the fender bolt holes. I started all 4 bolts and tightened them up to te point that any tighter would make it hard to remove the tape. Then I took the that tape of and tightened em down.. A friend holding the front part of the fender up will keep it from making a "contact point" on the bottom of the fender.

I'm going to paint the inside of the tub, firwall, where the fenders bolt up, inside the fenders, under the hood and all the exterior edges. I'll then assemble everything and shoot the whole thing silver. I'm doing it this way because I'm painting it silver and silver has a tendency to seperate and not match.
