I am looking into converting my manual steering into power steering on my 1979 CJ7 . I already have the pump, hoses, and brackets to mount on the engine (AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l ). From what I can tell, I will need the gear box, steering shaft, and the pitman arm. Am I going to need anything else? Thanks and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

You don't need a whole new steering shaft, just the bell coupler , unless the shaft is different than 80's models.

Didn't see pulleys on your "have" list. Do you have the dbl pulley for the water pump? Maybe for the crank as well, don't recall what a 79 has on the crank.

I really appreciate the help. I will check on the shaft; that would be a nice surprise and make it a little cheaper. I do have the double pulley on the crankshaft and the water pump. The previous owner actually had a hydraulic pump for a snow plow on it. I think you have talked me in to it. Time to start ordering parts.

Make sure you get the right steering box for your lines. early lines had flared ends and later had oring style ends. Can't remember for sure but I think the change to oring was 1980.

Here is a picture of my '79 I6 to show you what the belts and pullies look like:

The small pully on the fron of the power steering pump not in use is for the Emissions Air Pump.
