My Jeep has the TEE type PCV Valve, one end is connected to the Valve Cover and the other end it just there open.

If you plug the open end, the engine quites down and seems to run better, and also has better throttle response.

Opened it runs ok, but it does want to "Stall" with the first bit of throttle, but once past that first half a inch of trottle its fine.

This weekend I decided to go ahead an plug the open end. I drove it and it ran fine, i could even take off in 1st with just the clutch, not giving it gas and idle around, so I thought, that's it... that has been my problem this whole time.... Well after driving to the next town to Lowe's I came back out to the parking lot to find a huge oil spot under the jeep.... I said well it's time to change the gaskets for sure now.

Then when I got home, after a bit I went out there and the same thing... huge oil spots under the Jeep.

Am I building up too much pressure with the PCV Valve plugged off? and it is making oil leak worse? How is everybody else's set up?
I know originally that the open end was ran to the charcoil canister... but that is non-exsitant on mine anymore, I dont have any emissions..etc.

Any Idea on this?
let me know

Thank you -

is the side that is hooked up going to manifold vacuum? that is where it should be. the PCV compensates for any pressure that gets past the rings and is making a negative or at least neutral pressure in the crank case. If you have no charcoal canister you should block the open end or even replace the valve with one that only has one outlet.
you need to find the location of the leak and go from there. :D

Yes the connected end is hooked up to the big port just below the carb on the intake.

Ok, so with it open it was letting the pressure out at the pcv, and now it is keeping it in and pushing out threw the weak gaskets?

I need to get some gasket kits now and change out the Oil Pan, Valve Cover, and Possibly Rear Main. - How difficult is this?

Thank you for the info -
(wish me luck)

Valve cover in a walk in the park, don't over tighten it, oil pan not easy but not rocket surgery, rear seal is a pretty good bit of work.
clean up your engine and spend some quality time under it watching it leak, get the best idea of what you are working with that you can.

one more thing, replace the pcv valve. It really should leak less with a good valve than it does with out it one. take the one you have and give it a shake. if it rattles it's good. you can give it a good clean with carb cleaner , it won't hurt it.

Ok, good deal.... I have known for awhile that I would end up having to change these out one day... but the leak wasnt that bad, but with the valve blocked off.... it is crazy bad.

I'm going to go ahead and order the gaskets... any particular prefrence? cork Vs rubber... Best Brand...etc?

This weekend I will get her cleaned up and see which one is first priority, if not all of them.

Thanks again for the help.

Also a good idea to repalce the grommet in the intake manifold so the PCV valve is help snugly. :chug:

Before you replace every gasket along with burning the midnight oil. How about going to a car wash, degrease the motor after you replace the PCV valve. Drive back home and then look for oil leaks.

In the words of my Dad if it ain't broke don't fix it.

He probably has remedied the problem by now.... that's an old post. :)
