83 CJ7 manual steering. Im experiencing some play in the steering so I checked all connections. When the steering wheel is turned I can see some play where the pitman arm connects to the steering box.The shaft going into the box looks loose when turned. Is this normal and if not is a new box in my future or can I just replace the internals. Sorry for all the newb questions

sounds like the bearing is going out, I'd just get another box, unless you like messing with stuff, than they do make bebuild kits.

Thanks again Old Dog.Thats what I thought . I will probably get the rebuild kit (cheaper ). Ive got to ask , will the worm load adjustment help this?

If you meen there is play in the steering before the arm moves maybe.
I thought you were talking about the shaft being able to move in the box. ( as in you could grab it by hand and move it in the bearing) if that the case adjusting the worm won't help.
I think kickenjeep did a writeup on rebuilding his box a while back, might want to do a search and see what he had to say about it.
