MAY 20, 2010 • BANNING, CA — Poison Spyder Customs expands its popular BFH™ line of hard-core Jeep bumpers with the new BFH™ rear bumpers for Jeep JK and other models.
Like Poison Spyder’s BFH™ front bumpers, the new rear bumpers are designed for those hardcore four-wheelers who value strength, simplicity and function. These bumpers are literally “Built For the Hammers” with the best ground clearance and departure angle possible. The BFH™ rear bumper is no wider than the Jeep’s rear body tub, with angled facets to improve its ability to slide over the rocks. The BFH™ bumper is CNC laser-cut from high strength 3/16” plate steel, then precision brake-formed for an exact fit.
Optional heavy duty recovery shackle tabs are CNC machined from 1” thick plate steel, shaped to match the profile of the BFH™ bumper so it won’t catch on the rocks. They accept common 3/4” heavy duty recovery shackles (available separately from Poison Spyder). Rear BFH™ bumpers are available initially for Jeep JK models, with TJ/LJ, YJ and CJ versions to be released soon. Also available in the near future will be a fold-down tire carrier similar to Poison Spyder’s “Rear Stinger” tire carriers in style and function.
“This bumper’s not for everyone,” admits Poison Spyder’s president Larry McRae, “in fact, it was originally built not as a production item, but for my personal JK. We designed it to stand up to the type of hard-core wheeling that I do. On my Jeep with 40” tires, we get about a 60° departure angle—we know of no other bumper on the market that does that on a JK! The BFH is built purely for performance with emphasis on strength, high clearance and light weight, with hardly any attention paid to the bells and whistles that complicate typical rear bumper systems.” Indeed, Larry doesn’t even carry a spare so there was no provision for a tire carrier in the initial design. “We’ll have a Stinger tire carrier for it soon,” Larry says, also noting that Poison Spyder will have a more mass-appeal full featured rear bumper system on the market soon.
