Which is better polyurethane or rubber bushings/mounts?

And where to get them.

is this a trick question?

I actually prefer rubber mounts, of course I have a 72 and the frame is not boxed. You can purchase body mounts fro just about any 4x4 parts retailer.

Would you elaborate CJ?

The poly too hard and more likely to stress the frame vs yield like rubber? etc?

and to the OP, as CJ said you can find them all over.

Check out our sponsors tab above, (in the banner) if you follow the info, you can get a discount

I noticed you have a 3" body lift though... this may make a difference yes?

Baja, no, this is not a trick question.

I am in need of replacing the spring bushings, motor mounts, tranny mount, etc. and am trying to get a concensus as to what is better. I use my CJ as a DD, mainly paved roads, yet I sometimes go out and drive some dirt roads and trails.

Here's one short link:

Rubber vs Polyurethane Bushings

another one:

Poly Bushings VS Rubber Bushings | National Restoration Parts

Those were just two of the top ones from a google search:

Googled: "Poly vs standard rubber bushings" very vague. You can apply the word Jeep in there somehow for more exclusively jeep info

I went with poly, but only because I just assumed it was better. I didn't research, as I should have, though I still might have made the same decision, but not sure.

I think it is a big personal preference... Read up some, and try one out. If you are diss-satisfied, try the other next time maybe?

I was really hoping these guys would give more feedback, and elaborate. I think sometimes us "noobs " ask questions that seem extremely easy or redundant or just plain silly...

Also I think Baja is grumpy today :poke:

Just joking Big Bear :D No offense intended :notworthy:

I like the little extra "cush" that the rubber mounts give for body mounts. (and recomended for glass tubs)
I also think rubber spring bushings will let the supension twist a little more off road.
If I had a road racer, it would be poly all the way.:D
Just my 2 cents.

no not grumpy, it is just that Poly is a product engineered to replace the rubber mounts that we all know just rot away, but then Poly squeaks and stuff a lot
I am personally torn, I use poly though

If you have a body lift you almost have to go poly (or hockey pucks). 3" of rubber is going to deform pretty quickly.

I don't have a body lift and have always liked rubber, as was stated they give more and since my frame is not boxed it flexes more then a later frame.

I bought a poly kit for my latest build with a glass body but I also bought a stick of rubber bushing material for 4WD hardware. I was planning on using the poly mounts on the frame and then add a 1/2 inch rubber between the poly and the body. Why? I like the look of the red bushings, I think they will hold better and last longer sitting on the frame and the rubber part, if it ever rots, can be more easily changed. I don't know if that makes any snece ir if i will do it but that my plan. Plus I needed a full body mount kit for all the washers and sleeves and I could not find a rubber bushing kit that had those with them.
