i just built my 77 cj back up to its glory but had to use a 79 tub (14,000 mils you cant go wrong) anyway the 79 tub has power brakes but my 77 tub had manual brakes. quadratec states that their boosters only work from 82 and up. the brakes work on this one but the pedal is like 2-3 inches from the floor, and theres no grab on the way down... so i know the booster isnt working.... should i just run a regular master cylinder and forget the power or do i have to have power because i have disc brakes in the front?

:)You do not have to have a Power Brake booster to have disc's in the front and drums in the rear.............but you do need the correct sized master cylinder and proportioning valve...........
Brakes are such a critical area, I would spend some time making sure you are matching all components.to insure a safe braking system.

If you need one pm me. I have a Yj one with the proportioning valve or a Cj one.

Pete
do you have a spare booster mount that bolts onto the firewall and would fit on my 77. If so PM me and we can talk business.

I deal with old jeeps
70 and older
what I have learned is to just trash everything about the old brake system and just go for 4 disc system
GM truck brakes fit real good on Dana axles so you can design a completely new system fast
there is not much you need to do to design it the only concerns are the proper check valves and proportioning valves. I get a adjustable inline proportioning valve from Summit and just go for it.
a 1/2 ton truck power MC and 4 1/2 tone disc brakes and universal mounting plates will cost less than a grand and that is if you replace all the plumbing on the jeep and you will be able to through passengers through the window if they do not buckle up.
