I was cleaning up my engine bay wiring harness this morning when I noticed that the two bolts on the power steering bracket that go into the intake manifold were loose. One fell out when I touched it. It doesn't look broken but it will not tighten up, the bolt hole in the manifold looks pretty clean and not stripped. Is the bolt supposed to be that short?
I am scratching my head here. I haven't done anything to the system since I replaced the power steering belt a month or so ago. I guess I could helicoil the manifold if I have to.

The bolt seems to be buggered up. I can't tell how the threads are in the hole. I would measure the depth of the hole and try a new bolt. If it doesn't hold I would drill it out to the next larger bolt. I've never had a problem with helicoils but for some reason I don't trust them.

The bolt looks very short to me, and I also have a lock washer on mine.

IIRC that's a 3/8" dia bolt.
Pretty easy to re-tap to 7/16"

I hope i'm wrong but your bolt looks like it is broken.

What LG said. 2nd option, helicoil. It would work fine in this application...

3rd option, epoxy a 3/8" stud in the manifold and use a nut.

Ok I wasn't going to post. But this is what I would use. They are called time serts they are way better than a helicoil. I cant remember what size that bolt is.

My engine is on the stand so I just measured. 3/8 X 1". With a 16 tpi

Very easy to re-tap to 7/16-14thd.
Don't even need to re-drill.
You will need a bottom tap......

I am going to tap it out tomorrow when I have a day off. I have to go with a metric size because when you ask for SAE in Germany they look at you funny.

Ok, I went ahead and did it today before I drive into work. I ended up replacing it with an M10 x 20mm bolt. My Jeep is already a mongrel mix of SAE and metric so one more won't make a difference.83118c66bccddd83eced7d9a27571a1a.jpg
