Decided that it was time to start yet another thread on ps conversation. I have a 68 CJ5 : D v-6, T-14 tranny, T-18 twin stick, dana 27 frt, Dana 44 rear, 3.73 gears. Also in my collection I have a CJ7 donor: Iron duke 4 cyl, SR 4sp, Dana 300 transfer, ps, Dana 30 frt, w/disk brakes, AMC20 rear all w/4.11 gears. Plus I have a later model CJ5 frame with a 30 front, but with drum brakes. I was looking into boxing the 68 frame, however the other is already boxed. All these are narrow trac cj's.

A). Qestion; Can I put the ps set up from the 7 on to the 5, either finding a bracket for the v-6 or making something. In all the threads I've read nobody has said ' get the steering box from a CJ7 ". Everybody says, camero, dodge pu, gm this or that. Has anyone ever done this or been a part of this swap?

B). I'm also looking to swapping the dana 27 to the Dana 30 because of the disk brake set up. Also have thought about the rear AMC20 because of the 4.11 gears. I like the Dana 44 , but for what I'm going to be doing a 1pc AMC20 will hold up. My CJ8 has a 1pc 20 w/4.56 & has lasted the 14 yrs. I've run it.

I'm looking for help, comments or just general discussion.

I just finished up doing everything your talking about. I converted my 56 to power steering. It doesn't matter what the steering box comes off of as long as it is a sagina.(please feel free to correct my spelling) Mine is off of a camaro but it doesn't matter. The Jeep Guy at the-jeep-guy.com. Has all the parts you will need for the power steering conversion. As to the axle swap I would put in the Dana 30 with the disks and the AMC20 . I know have a 44 is nice and cool but the AMC20 already has matching gears with the Dana 30 and it is a center drive compared to the off set 44. Plus if you want more streangth out of the AMC20 an axle kit for them is pretty cheap.

Your link does not work.

Great write up on that link, will be a huge help for the project. Thanks to everyone else for the input. Going to swap out the 27 for the Dana 30 to start with. Then do the rest of the steering with the tilt column. As with all jeep projects, one thing leads to another and the list goes on forever. This is my third jeep project and most extensive. What started out as three mods, has turned in about a dozen. Only thing I don't have is all the money for all that I have on the list. One step ay a time, not a sprint, its a marathon. Thanks again for the info.
