I have been trying to find out what I need to convert from a manual steering to power steering on a 1962 CJ6 . I have found a few forums that talk about this but nothing older than a 1972 CJ. Any ideas? Is it the same? Also, I have a quarter to half steering wheel play while driving, this makes it a little difficult. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Your 62 is much different than later CJ's and is equipped with a Ross steering box frame mounted along side the engine with a drag link going forward to a bellcrank and then tie rods-Yes?
That would be original, so with all that said to go power is much work and $. You would need a new steering columm, intermediate shaft, power steering box and new mounting system welded to the frame, new tie rod/link, steering pump and brackets, hoses, belt and pulley and whatever I forgot?
Your system can be fixed to work good as long as your not gona run big tires.
The first thing to look at is your knuckle king pin bearings, they are small and tend to get hammered after 50 years of service, then after rebuilding the knuckles if ness check you ball ends for play and grease, replace as needed, then look at the bellcrank to see if it has any slop in the pivot pin, next check the drag link ends as well as the balls that go into these(they get oval), look at the pitman arm ball end it gets oval too, lastly the gear box itself probably/may need a rebuild and that is not so hard to do yourself other than threading the whole unit in and out of the Jeep, the steering shaft must remain in the box for all this.
It's allot of work but I recently did all of the above on my similar CJ3b and the steering is tight as a drum now with about an inch of free wheel movement.

Well if it will only stop raining for a little bit I have lots to check. Thanks

When the rain does stop, lift the front off the ground and try moving the wheels by hand and see iff there is any free play up-down. There should be no looseness and dispite what I have read myself you should be able to move the wheels by hand and make the steering wheel turn with little effort.
This is what my knuckle bearings looked like.
