I'm new to Jeeps and new to the site.

I have a 76 CJ5 w/ a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l - 6, which I'm neck deep into adding power steering to. I gathered all the parts off ebay, got everything installed then realized I didn't have two grooves on my fan pulley.

So then I chased down a fan pulley with two grooves.

I put the the "new" fan pulley on and things just don't look right so it brought up a few questions.

First, does the power steering belt go around the harmonic balancer, the fan pulley and the PS pump, or just the harmonic balancer and the PS pump?

Second, if the belt goes around everything should I need to shim out both the alternator and PS pump to get the belts to line up or should the stock positions where the brackets bolt up to make everything line up with the fan pulley nicely.

I'm starting to think maybe I've got the wrong fan pulley.

Sorry if these are simple or stupid questions, but I'm a bit mechanically challenged.

Both the alternator and the power steering pump are driven from the crank pulley, and both are looped over the fan pulley as well. The idea behind both of the belts being run to the fan is that if one of the belts breaks, the fan will still be driven and not cook your engine. The PS belt will be on the inside, and the alt belt will run outside.
You should not have to shim anything out.
