I got bit by the Jeep bug and have a 1979 CJ5 six with manual steeriing. I am converting to power. So far pretty good! The donor power box is out of a '72 Chevelle. Looks like it will bolt up to old mounting bracket. My question is the lower steering shaft. If I am reading right it needs to be swapped for power type. It look like manual won't attach to PS box. In the long run am I better of to buy new shaft? Having trouble trying to locate a used one (at a resaonable price). Suggestions?

You need #4 for power steering in the page dalefann88 provided.

Mine came from Morris 4x4. standard steering shaft w/power 76-86.
$139

I converted my 78 and am really happy with it. Your chevelle box should give you a much better ratio too than your old manual box.

dont bother with the :dung: stock ones. Go get a good Flamming Rivers or Borgeson. They will make a huge difference in your steering.
