Hey guys. I have almost plugged all the leaks in my cj but am having major problems with the power steering box. Its leaking out of the low pressure line fitting on the box. I have changed this seal out twice to no avail... could it be turned up too high?? Any insight into this would help.

When you replace the seal (O-ring) are you using a little grease to keep it from getting chewed up ?

Is the seat on both the box and hose clean and free of nicks or burrs ?

Could the nut be deformed or cross threaded ?

Sure you are using the correct seal ?

Idef did not use grease guess I could try that. I bought a standard o ring set from auto zone is that ok? I know its the correct diameter

Ps its leaking from inside the fitting where the tube is which obviously means I have ao ring issue...does anyone sell oem replacements?

Nick, I've had Hell's own amount of trouble seating both lines on the PS box without leaks. Usually it was cross-threaded fitting. Finally I jacked the radiator up until I could center the line fitting without strain on it, and got it right.

The Big Boys say to just give the fittings about 1/2 a turn after snug; any more and the o-ring gets chewed like a dog biscuit.

Finally got 'em both seated and leak-free. I will leave the box alone now; can't stand to go through it again.

Man Thanks! Now that you say that I know I dont have it cross threaded because I spent what seemed like an hour barely fitting my fingers throught there frustrated lining it up right. But now that you mention it every time it leaks I crank it tighter and tighter out of frustration... Ill try and re torque and see how it goes... thanks again!

Turns out its not supposed to have an O ring! Which is why I couldnt find the old one and why I could never stop the leaking... i feel dumb!
